Circumstantially Shivaay grew up to look down upon those who weren't born with a golden spoon in their mouth. He began to believe every relationship could be traded against a monetary value because in the end money is all that people truly value.
Annika on the contrary grew up as a self-made young woman who herself looked down upon those who only craved materialistic benefits, but in her own way. Essentially both despised the same ideology but in different ways.
That will forever send a strong message. Despite the very typical setting of most ITV content, a rich lad and a middle-class woman, the most fantasized concept too, their personal approaches were against the tide. They didn't romanticize it.
In fact they clearly opposed relationships formed on the basis of materialistic gains. They came together due to other situations, they lasted together out of love. But their relationship was of equals, not one benefiting off the other.
