Three hours later I walked down the stairs heading towards the living room. I was looking for Alex, to apologize to him but instead I found him talking to Sean from the kitchen. I tip toed over to the doorway and stood against the wall so they didn't know I was listening.
"I don't know man. I really- I don't know." Alex whispered clearly frustrated and confused. I could tell by the way he spoke that he had his head in his hands.
"You should really just trust her." Sean said back but it was all mumbled like he was eating. "I mean that's what I've learned to do with her. She's become a friend to me as all of you have."
My question was answered as a crunching of a chip sounded as Sean spoke again, "Or maybe you could think of something that will reassure her that everything is going to be fine. Think of something to help?" Sean said speaking the last part more as a question.
I smiled at the thought of them confessing so much to each other. Sean was right, we've all grown so close to each other over the past few days.
"I don't know. I'm thinking she's right. What if something horrible does happen?" Alex confessed.
The words made me angry even though I was the one who put the thought in his head in the first place. I was angry at myself for constantly thinking something was going to go wrong or someone was going to die.
"Don't think that way man. We're going to kick Shaw's ass." Sean laughed.
"Yeah then what?" Alex asked. I frowned at the thought.
"I don't know. Stay here, find more mutants." Sean admitted.
"Why did you plan on leaving after?"
Alex sighed, "Kind of." Again his words frustrated me, why would anyone want to leave here if it meant we were safe and had a home. A home with others like us where we all felt normal.
"Damn dude. That's depressing." Sean admitted before standing up. I heard the chair slide back on the tile. I pushed myself off the wall and waited for Sean to walk out of the room.
He abruptly stopped in front of me, "Oh hey Thea." He smiled nervously, "Did you hear all of that?"
I nodded, "Yeah I did." I whispered back.
"Are you going to say something?"
I nodded again, "Yeah I am."
This time he nodded before walking to his room. I took a deep breath before walking into the kitchen where Alex continued sitting.
"Thea?" He asked shocked. "Couldn't sleep?"
I took a seat next to him although it felt awkward like I shouldn't, "Yeah something like that." Truth is, after Raven left my room I fell asleep and had a nightmare, we all left for the mission. Everything was a blur, I only picked up on small details like Banshee jumping out of the plane, Erik hanging on the wheel of the plane, then thats when it happened. The plane was going down, we crashed on the land but I was launched out of it. I ran to the plane to check on everyone and Alex was unconscious then I woke up.
"And you?" I asked.
"Couldn't sleep either." He mumbled.
I began to play with the salt and pepper in front of me when he suddenly spoke, "I'm sorry but I have to say it." He turned to face me and his face softened, "Even if something happens when we leave, which doesn't mean that something is going to happen. Just know that it doesn't change anything between us." He softly spoke.
I stared at him.
"I know." I smiled, "And it won't change how I feel either."
He smiled a big smile but I made it disappear by opening my big mouth. "Do you plan on staying here after the mission is over with?" I asked even though I knew his answer.
"I don't know." He shook his head before sighing.
"Are you?" He asked. I questioned the thought many times debating going back home to my family even though the reason I left was difficult or to go off and find my father but my overall decision was revealed.
"I'm staying. You know, help others like us and be around others who don't view us like the rest of the world does." And with that I smiled, stood up and went to bed. Probably back to how we were before this conversation, being ignored by Alex.
