Sana almost dropped her phone upon seeing Tzuyu’s name, and the way the message ended. Her chest tightened. She felt nervous, unsettled by the way Tzuyu spoke through text; it sounded more like a statement than a request.
The Japanese girl found the style of Tzuyu’s message oddly familiar, but she shrugged it off. She was too busy avoiding Nayeon and Chaeyoung and overthinking what she was supposed to do next.
She went back and forth in her mind, unsure whether she should meet Tzuyu or not. The brunette remained undecided, until the final day arrived.
Now, Sana had just finished packing her things and casually sat on Mina’s lap.
“So,” Momo said as she approached them with a cup of coffee, “how does it feel to be dating Tzuyu?”
“How many times do I have to tell you I’m not dating Tzuyu?” Sana shot back. “Why would I even date someone I barely know?”
She crossed her arms, clearly irritated. “Whoever posted that rumor is a lunatic. They already know this Tzuyu girl doesn’t show interest in anyone and so am I. How can they say something like that without any basis? Do you get my point?”
Before anyone could respond, the door suddenly opened, revealing a familiar cub.
“Good morning, unnies!” Chaeyoung greeted them cheerfully.
Her eyes then immediately landed on Sana. “Yah, Sana-unnie, that’s my spot,” she complained, noticing where her sister was sitting. Without hesitation, Chaeyoung plopped herself down on Sana’s lap.
“You don’t want to break my cousin’s bones, do you?” Momo teased, glancing at them.
The sisters chuckled before Chaeyoung finally got off Sana’s lap. When Sana moved to another seat, the youngest followed her without question. Chaeyoung wrapped her arms around Sana’s neck, and snuggled against her shoulder like a toddler, completely unaware of the quiet jealousy brewing in Mina.
'Why do I have to see this? Why does it hurt?'Mina thought.
A moment later, Chaeyoung stood up and looked down at Sana.
“By the way,” she said, “who told you that you’re allowed to sit on her lap?”
Meeting the cub’s gaze, Sana answered calmly, “I did. Is there a problem with that?” She gently unclasped Chaeyoung’s arms from around her. “I have the right to,” Sana added, leaning closer and whispering, “because she’s my future sister-in-law.”
With that, Sana pulled away and turned to Mina. “Right, Minari?” she said out loud, leaving the other two Japanese girls utterly confused.
Before Chaeyoung could process what was just said, Sana grabbed her ID and bag and waved goodbye.
Meanwhile, just across the hall, Jihyo and Jeongyeon were also talking about Sana and Tzuyu.
“I can’t believe Sana made that savage kid fall for her so fast,” Jeongyeon said while squeezing toothpaste onto her toothbrush.
“I mean, I get it. Anyone could fall for Sana without her even noticing. Even Mina, I think, is attracted to her. But Tzuyu? It feels unreal.” Jeongyeon added.
“True,” Jihyo agreed. “Tzuyu barely smiled before,” she continued. “But look at her now. If Sana really is the reason behind that, I’d be the happiest cousin alive.”
Jeongyeon gave her a look while brushing her teeth.
“Don’t judge! I’m not gay,” Jihyo quickly defended. “I’m just supporting my cousin.”
“I totally agree with Jihyo,” Nayeon chimed in as she stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in nothing but a towel. “But what about Mina? You mentioned earlier that she’s attracted to Sana.”
Jeongyeon glanced at Nayeon and immediately looked away. She hurriedly finished brushing her teeth, not wanting the bunny to catch her blushing.
'Nayeon… what did you do to me? Ever since that stupid kiss, I’ve felt something I can’t even explain,' she thought.
“So?” Nayeon pressed. “What about Mina?”
“She’s into girls,” Jeongyeon replied. “She once told me she has a crush on our cub. And I caught her looking at Sana differently earlier when Sana was sitting on her lap.”
Nayeon and Jihyo exchanged surprised looks.
“So it’s not just Tzuyu, then,” Nayeon murmured.
“Yeah. Dahyun too,” Jeongyeon added.
'And I think I’m slowly becoming one of them,'she thought.
“How do you know?” Jihyo asked.
“It’s obvious,” Jeongyeon shrugged. “Her brother is gay, and the way she looks at Sana’s friend says a lot.”
“Oh my God,” Nayeon exclaimed. “What is happening in this country?”
“Sounds fun,” Jeongyeon said.
“Sounds like trouble,” Jihyo and Nayeon said in unison.
“Huh? Why?” Jeongyeon frowned. “How is that trouble?”
“Mina likes Chaeyoung,” Nayeon explained, “and you said she’s also attracted to Sana. Those two are inseparable. If Mina gets caught between them...that is the trouble.”
“I still don’t get it,” Jeongyeon said, even more confused.
“You will one day,” Jihyo replied knowingly.
As for Sana, she was already on her way to the bridge near the juniors’ gymnasium. She had finally decided to meet Tzuyu and clear up the dating issue, especially since she had lied to Mark weeks ago.
She checked her watch. Only to see that it was already 10 oclock.
“Great, Sana. Just great,” she muttered. “Five minutes late, and you don’t even know what she looks like. Why didn’t you think of checking her social media when you were at the library?” she scolded herself.
Just a few meters away from the meeting spot, Sana caught sight of a tall figure walking in the same direction, guiding a mountain bike beside her.
Her heart nearly stopped recognizing her so-called longleg. She was about to turn and escape, but the Taiwanese girl had already seen her.
With no other choice, Sana kept walking.
'Oh God, strike me now. What is she doing here? Can this get any worse? I’m not ready for this,' Sana thought, biting her lower lip as she forced an awkward smile.
“H-Hey,” Sana stuttered when Tzuyu stopped in front of her. “It’s been a while. W-what a coincidence.”
Her cheeks burned as memories of their kiss flooded her mind. She couldn’t bring herself to meet Tzuyu’s eyes.
“I’m actually waiting for you,” Tzuyu said simply.
“Huh?” was all Sana could manage as she looked at her. Her heart began pounding wildly as a realization slowly sank in.
'Oh no… you’re not Somi, are you?'
Embarrassment washed over her as she bit her lip again. Noticing this, Tzuyu smiled softly.
“Sana-unnie,” she said, a hint of nervousness in her voice, “I… I’m Chou Tzuyu.”
