As Sana reached the university, all eyes were on her. Every person she passed turned their head in her direction. It was the first time anyone had seen her wearing shorts. She usually stuck to baggy trousers or jogging pants, unless she was safely tucked away in her room.
“Whoa! Auntie sure is lucky to have Sana-unnie as her girlfriend,” Somi said, sitting on the grass near the gate with her dorm mates. “I just hope she knows how to cook, because Auntie definitely doesn’t.”
Nearby, Momo spotted Sana as she and Mina were heading back to their dorm after a morning jog.
“See that, Minari?” Momo said, pointing. “That’s my best friend. It’s very rare for her to wear shorts outside her cave.”
While everyone else whispered and stared, Sana remained oblivious. She headed straight to the parking lot, unaware that she had become the main topic of the morning.
As she searched for a place to park Nayeon’s bicycle, a guy approached her.
“Hello, Miss Minatozaki,” he greeted.
“Hi,” Sana replied, not even glancing at him.
“Do you need help?” he asked.
“No, thanks. I’m good,” Sana said as she finally managed to park the bike. She turned to leave, but suddenly, the guy grabbed her wrist.
“Can we talk for a while? I want to get to know you,” he said, startling her.
“I’m sorry, mister, but I’m in a hurry,” Sana replied, trying to pull her hand away. His grip didn’t loosen. Instead, it tightened.
“I just want to know you better,” he insisted.
From a distance, Momo noticed what was happening and rolled up her sleeves.
“That’s it. I’m not letting anyone bully my best friend,” she said. “Mina, stay here.”
Just as she was about to storm over, Dahyun caught up with her, stopping her and pointing toward Sana.
There, approaching from behind, were Tzuyu and Chaeyoung. Sana continued resisting until she heard a familiar, chilling voice.
“Don’t. You. Dare. Touch. My girl. With. Your. Filthy. Hands.” Tzuyu’s voice was firm, her glare deadly.
The stranger immediately let go of Sana’s wrist and turned pale.
“T-Tzuyu… I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Sana. I didn’t know,” he stammered.
“Not knowing doesn’t give you the right to do whatever you want,” Tzuyu snapped. “Mr. Wang, how many times do I need to remind you to stop causing trouble if you don’t want to get expelled from this university?”
“I’m sorry. It won’t happen again,” he said before running off.
Once he was gone, Tzuyu and Chaeyoung turned to Sana. She was staring at the ground, rubbing her wrist. She braced herself, expecting a verbal scolding from her younger sister—for wearing shorts.
Instead, Tzuyu quietly took off her sweatshirt and tied it around Sana’s waist, covering her legs.
“Thanks,” Sana said softly. Tzuyu only smiled.
A moment later, Chaeyoung let out a deep sigh. Sana knew exactly what was coming.
“What did I tell you about wearing shorts?” Chaeyoung scolded. “I warned you.”
“I didn’t plan on wearing this,” Sana defended herself. “As you can see, it’s not mine.”
Tzuyu fake-coughed, interrupting them.
“Um… Chaeyoungie,” Sana said carefully, “you heard Tzuyu’s my girlfriend, right?”
“Yeah,” Chaeyoung replied casually. “And she knows you’re my sister.”Sana’s eyes widened. “So yeah, she won’t get jealous,” Chaeyoung added, glancing at Tzuyu.
“I’m not jealous,” Tzuyu replied calmly. “It’s just that… you acted more like the girlfriend there, the way you scolded her.”
“She may act like my girlfriend,” Sana said, ruffling Chaeyoung’s hair, “but she’s still my baby.”
“I am no longer a baby,” Chaeyoung protested. “I’m a tiger, a beast. Roar.”
“Beast… baby beast,” Tzuyu teased.
She laughed along with Sana, and the two high-fived.
“Yah! Stop teasing me. I’ll grow up one day. You’ll see,” Chaeyoung said, trying to sound tough, but only managing to look adorable.
“Aww, my baby beast,” Sana said, pulling her into a hug.
“Tsk. I’m not your baby anymore,” Chaeyoung muttered. “You already have one.”
“What?” Tzuyu asked. Noticing Sana’s face heating up, she quickly added, “I’m not her baby. She’s my baby.”
Sana’s face turned even pinker.
“Uhm… I should go,” Sana said hurriedly, changing the subject. “I’m really late for school.”
Tzuyu and Chaeyoung exchanged confused looks. “Sana-unnie,” Chaeyoung said slowly, “today’s Wednesday.”
“I know,” Sana replied.
“We don’t have classes until Friday,” Tzuyu explained. “Everyone’s preparing for JYPU’s anniversary this Saturday.”
“Oh my God! I totally forgot!” Sana exclaimed.
“Ohhh,” Chaeyoung smirked. “So you wore Jeongyeon-unnie’s shirt because you thought you were late.”
“Wait...this is Jeongyeon’s shirt?” Sana asked.
“Yes,” Chaeyoung confirmed.
The siblings exchanged evil smirks before turning to Tzuyu, clearly plotting future teasing.
While the three laughed together, Mina watched from afar, quiet and distant.
“Are you jealous?” a man asked, standing beside her.
“Why would I be?” Mina replied.
“Because Tzuyu and Chaeyoung used to be your best friends,” he said. “Now they seem closer to Sana. Or maybe…” He smirked. “You like one of them. Is it Sana? Tzuyu? Or the lion cub?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Mina said flatly.
“Come on. We’re not blind,” another girl added, joining them. “We’re in the same boat. You like the cub. He likes Sana. And I am clearly into Tzuyu.”
“I don’t even think their relationship is real,” the man added.
“Why?” Mina asked, turning to him.
“Sana’s more affectionate with Chaeyoung, your cousin, and your friends than with her so-called girlfriend,” the girl said.
“Tzuyu can’t even hold her hand. No kisses. No couple moments. It’s strange. Don't you think?” She added.
Soon after, the man excused himself, leaving the girl behind with Mina.
The girl stepped closer, lowering her voice. “I know how it feels to love someone who doesn’t know,” she said gently. “But your situation is worse. Sana’s taking everything, your best friends, your cousin, your world. She’s an attention seeker. If I were you, I’d stop her before it’s too late.” She slipped a piece of paper into Mina’s hand.
“We can help each other,” she whispered. “If you change your mind, I’m just a call away.” She walked off, leaving Mina alone.
Mina stared at the paper in her hand.
'Sana-unnie… who are you really?' She wondered. Are you taking them away… or are you just this friendly?
