As Chaeyoung left the ward, Mina stared at her friends, disappointment weighing heavily on her chest as tears streamed down her face.
“So you all knew,” Mina said, her voice shaking. “You knew… and no one thought to tell me?”
“Not everyone,” Momo snapped back. “Even I didn’t. All I knew was that Sana was an only child.”
“I just found out today,” Jeongyeon added quietly.
“Jihyo was the only one who knew about Sana and Chaeyoung,” Nayeon explained. “We kept their identities hidden so people wouldn’t judge them for being half-sisters.”
“Dahyun and I knew,” Tzuyu admitted flatly, her eyes never leaving the computer screen. “Chaeyoung told us. She asked us to keep quiet, so we did.”
The room fell silent except for the soft beeping of machines.
Jihyo pulled Mina into a hug, rubbing her back gently.
“I warned you,” she said softly. “Jealousy would only hurt you.”
“Sana was never the problem. I was jealous of Jennie. Of Nayeon’s attention. Sana was… kind to me. I never saw her as a rival.” Jeongyeon said.
“Sana’s like that,” Nayeon said. “She’s affectionate. Clingy. She loved you like family. She even called you her sister-in-law when you weren’t around.”
That did it. Mina broke.
“I was so stupid,” she sobbed. “I blamed her for things she never did. I hurt everyone because I wanted attention. How can I face her now? And Chaeyoung, she hates me now.”
“She doesn’t,” Nayeon said firmly. “She’s just scared. Sana’s missing.”
“Do you think… she’ll forgive me?” Mina whispered.
“She will,” Momo said. “She asks about you all the time.”
Mina wiped her tears. “Then I’ll talk to her. Where could she be?”
“She took my car,” Jeongyeon replied. “She’s at my place.”
After their conversation, Mina excused herself following Chaeyoung.
At Jeongyeon's place, the gates opened after a few rings. By the poolside, Mina saw Chaeyoung pacing, her hands clenched, eyes red from crying.
“Can we talk?” Mina asked.
“You already are,” Chaeyoung said coldly, wiping her tears. “Just don’t talk bad about my sister again.”
“Please,” Mina said. “Just listen.”
“I always listened to you,” Chaeyoung replied. “That’s the problem.”
Mina swallowed hard.
“You were right. I was jealous. That’s why I said those things and did some stuff I shouldn't have. I was wrong. So I left because I knew I messed up.”
She bowed her head.
“I just returned and messed things again. I’m sorry. I loved you so much that I forgot how to be decent. You don’t have to like me back. I just want your forgiveness.”
Chaeyoung’s voice cracked.
“I’m not mad. I’m just hurt and disappointed. I really thought you liked Sana-unnie when I saw you kiss her.”
Mina felt her chest cave in.
“Wait… you saw that?”
Chaeyoung let out a humorless hum. “I was with Jihyo-unnie. We both saw you. That’s why this hurts more. You didn’t just betray her, you shattered the trust I thought you had.”
Mina swallowed hard.
“Chaeyoung, that kiss was scripted.”
Chaeyoung froze. “…What?”
“I let someone use me,” Mina continued bitterly. “I let my jealousy turn me into a weapon. I kissed her knowing she wouldn’t push me away. Knowing she was kind enough to believe I meant no harm.”
Chaeyoung stayed silent as Mina explained everything, how it was planned, how she was instructed, how the realization hit her too late.
“I think the same person planned everything,” Mina said hoarsely. “The kiss. The chaos. And now Sana’s disappearance.”
She clenched her jaw.
“He likes her. Obsessively. It’s Mark Tuan.”
Chaeyoung’s expression hardened instantly. “Then what are we waiting for?”
She grabbed Mina’s hand without hesitation. “We’re getting my sister back.”
Mina stared at their intertwined fingers like she didn’t deserve the touch.
“Does this mean…” her voice wavered, “…you forgive me?”
Chaeyoung exhaled slowly. “Apology accepted,” she said, a faint, tired smile appearing. “But forgiveness doesn’t erase what happened.”
She tapped her chest lightly.
“You still matter to me. And Sana-unnie,” her voice softened, “—she misses you too. Even after everything.”
Mina’s tears fell silently.
“I swear,” she said, gripping Chaeyoung’s hand tighter, “I’ll spend every moment making this right.”
Hand in hand, they headed back to the hospital—carrying guilt, resolve, and the shared determination to bring Sana home.
