It had been a week since Sana and Momo’s argument, and the younger Japanese girl was still staying at Tzuyu’s apartment.
It was already past three in the morning when Momo ended her phone call with her cousin. She had told Mina everything that had happened in the dorm.
Lying back on her bed, she placed her phone on the bedside table and noticed the picture frame beside it. It was a photo of her and Sana. She picked it up and stared at it, her vision blurring as memories flooded back and tears slowly welled in her eyes.
Flashback
“I promise that starting today, we’re sisters,” Sana said as they walked toward Momo’s house, their hands intertwined and swinging happily. “No matter what happens, I’ll always protect you from bad people.”
“As your best friend,” Momo replied, resting her arm on Sana’s shoulder, “I promise to eat all your food because what’s yours is also mine.” She laughed. “Just kidding. I promise we won’t fight and that I’ll stay by your side forever. No one can separate us.”
“Yeah, no one can split us,” Sana said confidently. “Not even a guy. I’ll always choose my Moguri over any guy.”
They high-fived, laughing.
“We look like we’re about to get married,” Momo joked, and Sana laughed along with her.
They took a picture that day, one they later had printed before heading back to Momo’s place.
End of flashback
“All you did was keep your promise… but I broke mine,” Momo sobbed softly. “I’m such a bad friend. I’m sorry, Sana. I miss you so much.”
'I need to talk to her, she thought. We promised we wouldn’t fight over a guy, a girl, anything. There are so many people in this world, but there’s only one Sana. She’s my best friend. No one can replace her.' Momo thought.
Wiping away her tears, Momo carefully placed the picture frame back on the table, grabbed her phone, and dialed Sana’s number.
At the apartment, the couple was asleep, but separately. Tzuyu has been taking the couch in the living room while Sana slept on Tzuyu’s bed.
Despite having already crossed certain lines, Tzuyu insisted on sleeping on the couch. She didn’t want to break the promise she made to Chaeyoung, and more than that, she didn’t want Sana to feel pressured or uncomfortable.
When Sana’s phone buzzed, Tzuyu reached for it and smiled when she saw the caller ID.
“Hello, Sana? Uh… sorry if I woke you up,” Momo said when the call connected.
“Hey, unnie. This is Tzuyu,” she replied gently. “Sana’s already asleep.”
“Oh, sorry for disturbing you,” Momo said. “I just wanted to apologize to her. I really miss that girl. How is she?”
“She’s been down since your argument,” Tzuyu answered honestly. “Do you want me to wake her?”
“No, it’s okay,” Momo replied quickly. “I’ll talk to her later.”
“Alright. I’ll tell her you called.”
“Thanks, Tzu,” Momo said. “Take care of my squirrel, or I’ll burn you alive. Got it?”
Tzuyu chuckled. “You don’t have to tell me twice. I won’t let anything happen to my princess.”
After the call ended, Tzuyu placed the phone down and went back to sleep.
A few hours later, Sana woke up and went through her morning routine before heading to the kitchen to cook breakfast.
Tzuyu, who had just woken up, couldn’t help but smile at the sight of her girlfriend. Her oversized shirt looked like a thigh-length dress on Sana, hugging her frame just enough. With her hair tied into a messy bun, she looked effortlessly beautiful.
Slowly, Tzuyu walked up behind her and slipped an arm around Sana’s waist.
“Good morning, babe,” she murmured, pressing a kiss to Sana’s shoulder.
Sana’s face instantly heated up.
“Good morning,” she replied shyly.
“Momo-unnie called earlier,” Tzuyu said, resting her chin on Sana’s shoulder. “She wants to talk to you.”
“She did?” Sana asked, hope lighting up her eyes. “You’re not joking?”Tzuyu only hummed in response, watching her cook.
Moments later, Tzuyu’s phone rang, interrupting them.
“Is that Momo?” Sana asked eagerly.
“No,” Tzuyu said, excusing herself as she answered the call.
Sana finished cooking and sat on the couch, waiting.
'Who could it be?' she wondered as Tzuyu continued talking on the phone.
When the call ended, Tzuyu sat beside her, but her attention remained glued to her screen.
'Maybe it’s Yoona-unnie,' Sana thought. She turned on the TV, growing bored. Half an hour passed, and Tzuyu was still busy on her phone, so Sana stood up to make sandwiches.
Not long after, the doorbell rang.
Tzuyu hurried to open the door.
“Shobe!” a guy exclaimed, pulling Tzuyu into a hug and kissing the top of her head. Tzuyu hugged him back, and Sana saw everything through the mirror.
'What the hell?' Sana’s thoughts spiraled. 'Who is this guy? What’s going on? Is she cheating on me? And what’s with ‘shobe’? Why is he calling my long-leg that?'Her eyes burned with emotion.
As they pulled away, Eun-woo caught Sana’s reflection in the mirror. He handed Tzuyu a bouquet of red roses and leaned close to her ear.
“I think I should leave now,” he whispered. “Your girlfriend looks like she’s about to murder me.”
Meanwhile, Sana gripped the knife tightly as she sliced the bread, taking an aggressive bite afterward.
“Don’t you dare cheat on me, Chou Tzuyu,” she muttered.
“Hey,” Tzuyu whined, tugging on Eun-woo’s arm. “You just got here and you’re already leaving? Don’t you miss me?”
“Of course I do,” he replied, pulling her into another hug. “I just can’t stay long. I wanted to check on my baby.”
When Tzuyu hugged him back, Sana’s jealousy finally snapped.
“That’s it!” Sana exclaimed, slamming the knife onto the table. She ran to the bedroom, shut the door, crawled under the covers, and cried.
