Days passed, and the University’s Anniversary finally arrived. The entire campus buzzed with excitement as students busied themselves preparing for the celebration. Every anniversary, both juniors and seniors were allowed to celebrate freely inside their dorms. Wine and other low-alcoholic beverages were permitted, as long as students followed school regulations. The university’s wine storage was located between the two dorm buildings.
As the sun set, the celebration officially began. While everyone else was caught up in the festivities, Sana headed to the 3Mix shared room. She sat with her cousin, chatting casually, since she had no idea what activities were planned.
Mid-conversation, the door suddenly burst open. Jihyo and Jeongyeon barged in, startling Sana. She flinched, accidentally splashing the water in her glass onto Nayeon’s shirt.
“Oh! I’m so sorry!” Sana apologized quickly.
“You startled us,” Nayeon said, wiping her shirt.
“My bad,” Jihyo said sheepishly. “I didn’t realize this clumsy squirrel was here.”
She then turned to Nayeon. “Can you accompany Jeongyeon to get the wine and drinks from the storage room?”
Handing them the key, Jihyo added, “Make sure you block the door with something solid. The inside knob is broken.”
“How many bottles are we getting?” Nayeon asked as she took the key. “For the whole dorm or just us?”
“Just us,” Jihyo replied. “And don’t bring too many. Also, aren’t you going to change your shirt?”
“It’s fine. I’ll change when we get back,” Nayeon said. “We won’t take long.”
As they left, Sana winked at Jeongyeon, silently cheering her on.
'Sana is really something,' Jeongyeon thought, chuckling. 'How does she even know I like Nayeon?'
“What are you laughing at?” Nayeon asked.
“Huh? Oh,nothing. I just remembered last Wednesday,” Jeongyeon said. “You kissed the ground.”
“You dare laugh at me, you ostrich!” Nayeon lightly punched her arm and walked ahead.
When they reached the storage room, Nayeon pulled a chair over to block the door from closing and followed Jeongyeon inside.
"So… should we get Barefoot Bubbly or Sutter Home White Zinfandel?” Jeongyeon asked, debating over which wine to grab first.
While the two were busy picking wine, a student passed by, noticed the open door, and closed it, assuming someone had forgotten.
“Kids these days don’t understand electricity conservation,” the student muttered before walking away.
Inside, Nayeon and Jeongyeon continued their task, unaware they were now locked in.
Once they finished gathering the drinks, they turned to leave.
“Oh no…” Nayeon said when she saw the door.
They rushed over, pulling and pushing, but it wouldn’t budge.
“Who closed the door?” Jeongyeon groaned. “We’re locked in.”
“Call for help,” Nayeon said. “Where’s your phone?”
“I left it in the dorm,” Jeongyeon admitted. “You?”
“If I had mine, I wouldn’t be asking,” Nayeon snapped, irritated.
They shouted and banged on the door, but no one heard them. Hours passed.
Cold seeped into their bones as they sat beside each other on the floor.
