Later that day, Jihyo and the rest gathered beneath a giant tree near the school’s storage room. After doing a quick headcount, the leader frowned slightly.

“Where is Sana-unnie?” the cub asked, glancing at her cousin as she recalled that her sister was nowhere in sight.

“She slept over at a friend’s house last night,” Nayeon assured. “No worries, she said she’ll be here any minute.”

“I didn’t know that squirrel had so many friends,” Momo commented. “Back in Japan, she couldn’t even say hi to the rich or popular students who tried to approach us. I mean, she’s nice, clingy and affectionate, but she’s always been so reserved. That’s why I’m surprised.”

“Well, there are a lot of things about her that people don’t know,” Jihyo said, casting a meaningful look at Nayeon and Chaeyoung. “Only a few do.”

“How about Tzuyu?” Nayeon asked, smoothly changing the topic. “Where’s that baby giant?”

“She’s not here,” the whitest girl replied. “And I don’t think she’s coming.”

“That’s fine,” Jihyo said calmly. “She already knows her roommates.”
Just as Jihyo was about to continue, Jeongyeon spotted Sana approaching and waved her over.

“Hello, everyone!” Sana greeted cheerfully. She glanced around, suddenly feeling shy at the sight of unfamiliar faces. Quickly, she took the seat between Momo and Chaeyoung.

“Everyone, meet our new student,” Jihyo announced. “Minatozaki Sana.”

“Hi, I’m Jiwon Jihyo-unnie’s younger sister,” Jiwon said with a smile.

“I’m Chaeryoung, and this is my sister, Chaeyeon,” she added.

“I’m Eunsuh, Jihyo-unnie and Jiwon-unnie’s maknae.”

“Natty,” the youngest chimed in brightly.“Nice to have you here, unnie.”

“So Sana is your name,” the last girl said, standing up. “Nice to meet you. I’m Dahyun.” She offered her hand, smiling from ear to ear.

Before Sana could take it, Momo abruptly grabbed Dahyun’s hand instead.

“Likewise,” Momo said firmly. “I’m Momo.”

“Wow, Moguri. That was fast,” Mina chuckled at her cousin’s boldness.

“She’s been staring at you since you arrived, and I don’t like it,” Momo whispered to Sana. “It’s creepy. I swear, she doesn’t even blink.”

“And why is that?” Sana asked, confused.

“How would I know?” Momo huffed. “I just don’t like the way she looks at you.”

Sana glanced briefly at Dahyun, then back at her best friend. “She looks friendly, Momoring. I don’t think she’s the troublemaker type, so stop judging.”

“Yah! What are you two gossiping about?” Nayeon asked when she caught them whispering.

“Momo said she likes Dahyun,” Sana teased loudly, earning laughter from the group.

“Yeah, I like Dah-wait, what?” Momo spluttered. “Hey! That’s not what I said!”

Laughing, Sana rushed toward Jihyo. When Momo tried to chase her, Sana darted behind Chaeyoung’s back. Momo raised her hand jokingly, but Chaeyoung shot her a warning look.

“Don’t.”

Mina froze. Chaeyoung never stepped in like that for anyone. Not even for her. The realization stung more than she expected.

Soon, Jihyo cleared her throat and began explaining the dorm arrangements, grouping them by threes.
Nayeon, Jeongyeon, and Jihyo.
Mina, Sana, and Momo.

“The seniors will stay in the right dormitory. Junior students will take the left.”

“Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu,” Jihyo continued. “Jiwon, Eunsuh, and Somi will stay next door. The Lee sisters and Natty will take the last room.”

“Yah! Unnie, why didn’t you group me with Nayeon-unnie and Sana-unnie?” Chaeyoung complained. “Isn’t that unfair? You let Natty and the Chae sisters room together—and your siblings too.”

“Me too,” Dahyun added. “I want to be with Somi and Eunsuh. They’re my closest friends.”

“I knew you’d question it,” Jihyo said patiently. “First, seniors and juniors aren’t allowed to share dorms anymore, unlike last year. Second, Mrs. Lee specifically requested that Natty stay with the Lee sisters. My own sisters wanted to be with their friends too, but I grouped them instead.”

She sighed dramatically.
“Believe me, the grouping is fair. Look at me, I’m stuck with these crackheads.” She pointed at Nayeon and Jeongyeon. “They only act normal when I’m around.”
That earned laughter. “Think of it as an opportunity,” Jihyo added. “A chance to get to know your new roommates.”

With no further complaints, Jihyo told them to start packing. School days would begin soon.

After the meeting, Momo asked Sana to come with them, but Sana shook her head. “I need to meet my new friend—longleg at the library.”

“Long-leg who?” Momo asked, intrigued.

“The one who’s been saving me since I arrived,” Sana replied warmly. “And don’t worry, you’re still my forever best friend.”
She leaned in and kissed Momo’s cheek before leaving.

By the time Sana reached the library, her so-called long-leg was already waiting. Tzuyu smiled and invited her to a favorite restaurant a few kilometers away from the school. Sana didn’t hesitate for even a second.
