“…I’m Chou Tzuyu.”
Those last three words reached Sana painfully slowly. She stood frozen, too busy convincing herself that this wasn’t really happening until Tzuyu snapped her fingers in front of her face.
“You’re spacing out,” Tzuyu said, amusement lacing her tone.
“U-Uhm, sorry… hi?” Sana replied awkwardly, immediately avoiding the younger girl’s eyes.
“Is that all?” Tzuyu asked, leaning closer with a teasing smirk.
Sana instinctively stepped back. “About what happened the other night…” she blurted out, her words rushing over each other. “I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry, i-it was just an accident. Anyway, I really have to go. I still have classes.”
Embarrassment burned her cheeks as she turned to leave but before she could take another step, Tzuyu caught her wrist, stopping her.
“Stop making excuses, Sana,” Tzuyu said calmly. “I know it’s your vacant period.”
'This is so embarrassing, Sana thought, staring at the ground.
She turned back to face Tzuyu, offering an awkward smile, already knowing she wouldn’t be allowed to escape this time.
“Let’s eat outside the campus,” Tzuyu said, releasing her wrist. She walked toward her bike and gestured for Sana to get on.
“W-We’re riding together?” Sana asked, pointing at the bicycle.
“Is there a problem with that?” Tzuyu replied, smiling.
“Well…” Sana hesitated. “People might think we’re actually dating.”
That only made Tzuyu’s smile widen.
“Aren’t we?” she said casually. “We even kissed.”
The red on Sana’s cheeks deepened instantly. Her mind flashed back to the words she had said that night and the lie she told Mark, introducing Tzuyu as her girlfriend.
“So,” Tzuyu asked gently, “are we going?”
Sana didn’t argue. She quietly climbed onto the back of the bike.
As they started moving, Tzuyu noticed Sana barely holding onto the hem of her shirt. She slowed to a stop and reached back, gently taking Sana’s hands and guiding them around her waist.
“You might fall if you’re too scared to hold me,” Tzuyu said before pedaling forward again.
Just as Sana feared, students began whispering as they passed through the garden. From the veranda of the senior dorms, their friends noticed them too.
“Oh. My. God!” Jihyo exclaimed. “Am I seeing things, or are my big, tantalizing eyes finally malfunctioning?!”
“Thomas, you don’t need to shout,” Jeongyeon groaned. “Your normal voice is already loud enough.”
“Guys, look!” Rosé said. “Is that...are those Sana and Tzuyu?”
The rest of the girls crowded the railing, staring at the pair below.
“I can’t believe my baby Tzu is all grown up now,” Nayeon fake-cried, throwing her arms around Jennie.
'Do you really need to do that?' Jeongyeon thought. 'I’m your best friend. You could hug me anytime.'
While the students are admiring the couple. Sana and Tzuyu ended up at a quiet, private restaurant. When they ate, Tzuyu finally broke the silence.
“So… what’s your plan?” she asked.
“My plan?” Sana echoed, confused.
“About us,” Tzuyu clarified. “Our relationship.”
Sana immediately choked on her food.
“I am your girlfriend,” Tzuyu added calmly, handing her a glass of water. “You were the one who said it.”
Sana took a sip, her hands trembling slightly. “Honestly, I don’t know,” she admitted. “I’ve never been in a relationship before. And I don’t even know what I feel about you yet. This is all so new to me.” She hesitated. “You’re confused too, right? Maybe we’re just carried away by that post. And… we’re the same gender.”
What Sana didn’t say was that she was already starting to look at Tzuyu differently and that scared her more than anything.
“I’m not confused,” Tzuyu said softly.
She looked straight at Sana, her expression sincere.
“I love you, Sana. I didn’t tell you before because I was afraid you’d avoid me once you knew.”
Sana fell silent. She is totally speechless and overwhelmed.
“I’m into girls,” Tzuyu continued. “My family knows. My friends know. Everyone knows.” She paused, then smiled gently. “If you’re not ready, I can wait.”
She reached across the table, careful not to cross Sana’s boundaries. “But I’m not breaking up with you right now,” Tzuyu added.
“We’ll go back to school as a couple but we won’t act too intimately. And if ever one day you fall in love with someone else, I’ll let you go. I’ll respect your decision.” Tzuyu squeezed Sana’s hand lightly. “Until then,” she said, “let me stay.”.
