Calum and I actually spent most of the day together but it was time for me to go to Luke's to practice guitar. Sundays were our usual practice day and I lived for them because it got me out of the silence of my house. Even with Calum here things were silent because he refused to talk to me. Rose was finally here and was working on dinner, talking Calum's ear off when I entered the kitchen.

"Michael are you going out now?" She asked without even turning around. Ever since I was little she told me she had eyes in the back of her head and since I was little I believed her.

"Yes Luke and I have practice." I said and headed to the door to grab my car keys.

"Why don't you ask Calum to go with you?" She suggested and spun around to face her. Calum had wide eyes and glanced over to Rose who was giving me a "you better ask him" glare. I sighed and turned to face Calum.

"Calum grab your guitar you are coming with me." I demanded and he nodded slowly before heading up the stairs to grab his guitar. He returned a minute later and followed me like a puppy to my car.

The radio in my car was always on with the volume cranked up. To me, driving without music is just nearly impossible. Calum is sitting in the front seat fidgeting with his fingers like he always does. I tried to sing along with the radio but Calum seemed really nervous so I reached over to turn the volume down.

"Are you okay?" I asked and Calum's worried face snapped over to look at me. He nodded once and turned his focus back to the window.

"What kind of music do you like?" I asked and again he looked back to me with huge brown eyes full of worry. He lifted his hand to point at the radio that was playing a blink-182 song.

"This kind of stuff huh?" Another nod. "What about Green Day? Fall Out Boy? Foo Fighters?" I asked one after the other and Calum nodded to all three, the smile on his face growing with each name.

"I've never been to a concert." I said and Calum shook his head no. Apparently he hadn't been to a concert either.

"I've always wanted to go to one but no one ever comes to Sydney." I joked and Calum gave a smile. This is the most stimulating conversation I've had with Calum the whole two days I've known him.

"Here we are." We pulled up to Luke's decent sized house and Calum stared at it in awe through the window. We got out of the car to grab our cases and I led us to Luke's garage where we usually hung out.

I opened the door and Luke was sitting in a chair tuning his guitar. He smiled at me but then did a double take when he saw Calum behind me. He smiled at Calum too and looked to me for an explanation but I just shrugged.

"Hey Luke." I said lamely and took a seat, encouraging Calum to do the same.

"Hey Mikey, who's your friend?" He asked with a strum of his guitar.

"This is Calum" I gestured to him.

"Hi Calum." Luke smiled and Calum waved a little but kept his eyes glued to his lap.

"Calum doesn't talk much but he plays so I brought him along." I said and Luke knew I had more explaining to do than just that.

"Okay so shall we get started?" Luke asked and Calum and I opened our cases. We taught Calum a few chords of a song we've been working on and he picked it up quite well.

Our practice session went really well and Calum added a little bit more depth to what me and Luke had going. Maybe he could be bass in our future band.

...

We told Luke goodbye and headed to my car to go home. Calum was his usual silent self but just like all the previous times that didn't stop me from striking up a conversation. It was dark outside and he was watching the moon follow the car like I used to when I was a kid.

"Did you have fun Cal?" I asked and he nodded with a small smile. "You are really good." I added and even in the dark I could see him blush.

We pulled up to our gate where I punched in the code on the key pad and headed down the long driveway. I parked in my usual spot and we headed into the monstrous house. Calum and I parted ways at the bottom of the stairs because I heard my parents talking in their home office. They usually hid in there to talk about me and I figured some eavesdropping was in order.

But as I approached the door it swung open and my mum was standing in the doorway.

"Michael! I was just going to find you, we have some things to tell you." My mother explained and my father appeared behind her.

"About what?" I suddenly felt nervous.

"It's about Calum." My dad said and I felt confused.

"What about him?" I asked. What weren't they telling me?

"It's about the reason he's here. Take a seat." My mum ushered me into the office and I took a seat on one of the rolling chairs.

"His mum and dad were killed in a car accident three weeks ago. He was sent to his aunts but that house wasn't fit for him. The only place anyone could think of was here because Thomas and I have been friends for years." My dad explained and I felt my heart race. His parents were killed? No wonder he was a nervous wreck in the car.

"Why doesn't he talk?" I blurted out.

"He hasn't talked since the accident." My mum said with a sad look on his face. All I could feel was sadness. Poor Calum. No one should ever have to go through that at our age.

"That makes sense." I whispered to myself. Of course he didn't want to talk, I wouldn't want to either if I lost my parents.

"Just be patient with him Mikey, more than likely he's going to be living with us for a very long time." My mum explained as I stood to leave. My mind was racing and I was trying to imagine what it would feel like to have no where to go.

My heavy feet carried me to my room and I collapsed onto the bed. Maybe Calum didn't have anybody before but he had me now. I could be a friend and I've always wanted a brother. Just as I was about to get up to change, there was a knock on my door.

"Come in." I said and rolled my head to the side to watch the door open. Calum pushed the door open slowly and entered my room like he did last night. Was that only last night. I shot up straight in my bed and Calum stood with his hands tangling in front of him.

"Calum are you okay?" I asked and he answered by shaking his head. He dropped his eyes to the floor and tears were rolling down his face.

"What's wrong?" I asked and he let out a strangled sob. I jumped off my bed and moved to stand in front of the crying boy. He flinched when I put a hand on his shoulder but he managed to look up at me.

Something snapped inside me when I looked into Calum's sad eyes. I felt so much for him but I just hoped it could stay platonic. I wasn't even sure if I was gay or Calum was for that matter. I needed to take Calum somewhere it was quiet and could take his mind off things. My library.

"Come on Cal." I said and grabbed his hand to drag him behind me.

I'm sorry this is bad I'm not 100 percent sure I know where I'm going with this story.

It won't be a long one and I'll try to make things more interesting soon. If not I'll delete it
