Steve Rogers was the supersoldier the whole world knew about, Y/N on the other hand, she was the supersoldier no one knew about. When she comes into the light she faces challenges hitherto undreamt of: the Battle of New York, Hydra's return, Ultron'...
He was alone on this mission, his final mission. He had stopped the Red Skull, and Hydra all on his own, or so he thought.
Y/N remained in the shadows, never breaking protocol, but she knew as well as anyone that this plane was headed for the bottom of the ocean. So she said to hell with protocol and ran to Steve's side.
"Y/N?" he asked, shocked. "What the hell are you doing here?" he asked, turning away from the flight controls and hugging her tightly. "You shouldn't be here," he whispered in her ear softly.
"I'm with you till the end of the line, even now," she replied, hugging him back.
Steve pulled away ever so slightly, "Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is it," he said grimly. "But why are you here?"
"This is my mission," Y/N started. "After you saved the 107th, Colonel Phillips and the others realized that they couldn't lose their precious super soldier. So they created another one...me. Erskine left a small amount of the serum in his lab, and they wanted to choose someone who not only knew combat but was skilled in medicine and technology. That, someone, was me," she explained.
Steve was still slightly confused, but he was glad that he wasn't alone anymore.
"I've been here, the whole time. In the shadows, never daring to come out and break protocol...until now. It was my mission to make sure that your missions never failed, to make sure that you were safe," Y/N continued.
"That was you, that sniper...when we were chasing the Red Skull. There was one of his men behind me, a sniper shot him before I even noticed him...I thought it was Bucky," Steve said finally coming to the realization that it was Y/N.
"Bucky caught me one day...he was the only one who knew...I've been here all along Steve."
Steve couldn't hold back anymore, he leaned forward and captured Y/N in a kiss, one that was long overdue. His hands gripped her waist tightly as the plane began to shake, her arms snaked around his neck. They only pulled apart when the need for air became too great.
"I've been waiting to do that for so long," Steve admitted, leaning his forehead against Y/N's.
Y/N smiled as his fingers brushed against her cheek, wiping away her tears. She noticed how Steve kept a picture of her in his compass.
"Do you remember that dance a few months back, where I told you I liked you?" Y/N asked.
Steve chuckled through the tears, "Yeah, I thought you were messing with me...until you kissed me...I'll never forget that day Y/N."

"You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?" Steve asked Bucky.
