Why did I decide to come back to school? I hate the sound of my alarm clock, but I got out of bed and got ready for school. I head downstairs with my hair in a ponytail and Dad was standing in the kitchen with a cup of coffee "There's a present for you on the table" He said and took a sip from his coffee and I turn around and there was a rectangular box on the glass table, that was wrapped in newspaper so it came from the guys down at the beach. I pulled off the newspaper and it was a notebook, like one that I would use for school. I pick it up and there's a collage glued all the around it of the beach, surfing and everything to do with to do the with two and I couldn't help but smile and put it in my bag "Tell the guys I say thanks" I say and start walking to school.

I walk into the office to grab my timetable and locker. As I went to the reception, there was a group of boys already in the office and they looked like they were out to cause trouble and I asked for my timetable and was walking out. "Hey new girl!" One called out and I turned around "What year?" His mate asks "Twelve" "What you got first?" The first guy asks "Math" I didn't want to give him any more info about me as he doesn't need to know that. I'm not here to make friends but to finish high school and see if I wanted to be a lifeguard or do something else and not looking for a boyfriend which I'm guessing is what these guys want but I already have my eyes set on one guy, who doesn't go to school, but I had pushed him away the night before.

I walk out without another word and find my locker. I found it and as I get my books out for the first two periods when my phone buzzed from my pocket. I get it out and I have a message from an unknown number, after unlocking my phone and reading the message which read: Hey Eve, its the boys from Bondi and I smile as so far they're the only thing keeping me here as I'd much really be at the beach with them but I want this, attached with the message as a video. I untangled my headphones from my pocket and played the video:

"Hey Eve, Mouse, Jesse and Maxi here" Maxi said from the tower "Good luck with school and try to survive" Mouse said from the windows, while Jesse kept look on the beach "It's only eight thirty and we've only been here for half an hour and it already feels different without you!" Jesse said while Mouse watching the waves "Oi! Maxi, middle set of flags" Mouse said finding someone in the water "Gotta E. Good luck and try not to kill yourself" Maxi said and ended the video.

I couldn't help but smile throughout at phone, looking like an idiot, those guys are who I am and its literally killing me that I'm here and there on the beach, but I can't beat myself up about it or blame anyone else as it was my decision and no one swayed me for the final choice. "Eve? Eve Carroll is that her?" Someone snickered behind me, I turned around and two girls were huddled together pointing at me "Eve?" A somewhat familiar voice said and I looked in the direction and a boy was coming towards me. He stood in front of me and I was confused.

His hair was pushed to the side of his face almost covering his eye. His hair was a dirty blonde and from what I could see, he had deep green eyes and had a swimmers build - broad tan shoulders, muscular brown arms. "Jack?" I ask once it clicks "Hey" He says and pulled me into a hug "How's it going? How you been?" He asks pulling away "Yeah, I've been good. Came back from being in America for surfing" I say "That's amazing! Know you would make it" He says remembering from when we were kids "Yeah, too bad you weren't there with me. Would have been a lot more fun" I said and the bell rang "Gotta go. I'll see you round, I guess" He says and heads off to homeroom and I hurry to mine.

Third period, timber. I walked into the class and there were only guys and I took a seat on a bench by myself, in the middle of the three rows as I don't know anyone in this class. "Excuse me, miss?" The teacher says once he walks in and sees that I'm there and I look up from the bench "The textile room is the first room on the left" He says and was surprised when I didn't move. "Did you hear me? Textiles is first on the left" He says again, slightly louder "Yeah, I heard you the first time. I'm meant to be in this class" I say and he looks at his laptop "Nope. You're not on the roll, so you're in the wrong class" He says after quickly looking through the roll, I walk up and look at his screen. "Second one. Eve Carroll. So yes, I'm meant to here" I say and walk back to the bench. "Sorry sir, had to talk to a teacher," Jack says coming in late and everyone looks at him "Hey Eve," He says and stands on the opposite of the bench to me and sir explains the projects we're going to be doing for the term.

"I didn't know you took this class?" Jack says as we measure out the timber and I could feel literally everyone's eyes on me "Are they all staring at me?" I ask Jack "Yeah" He whispers and I turn my head and its like they snapped. Everyone started measuring their timber and I felt a little more comfortable "Haven't they ever seen a girl before?" I ask "Yeah, but not in timber before. It's always been guys in here, even though girls have the option to take it" Jack answers. "How are the guys? At the tower" He asks "Yeah, they're good. Still saving people from drowning and having a laugh at the same time" I say "How was America?" He asks "Amazing! The surf was amazing! The swell and waves got to like nine! Or ten feet! And it was amazing!" I say as it was a really great experience. "How have you been? I didn't ask you before" I say "Yeah, as good as I can be. Mum and Dad got divorce a couple years ago, Jada overdosed last year and died and I had to give up surfing to support home as mum's lost it" Jack says he used to have the best life. His backyard backed onto the beach, his parents were happy with their four kids and he loved to surf. "I'm going to the tower after school. You're welcome to join me if you want. I'm sure the guys would like to see you again" I invite and he thinks for a moment "Yeah, I'd like that. Haven't seen them in a while and haven't been to the beach in years" He says and that was it. It was settled. Jack was coming to the tower with me after school and honestly, I couldn't wait. It'd be like old times.
