Chapter 22

It's so late at night it's nearly morning when you wake up from a nightmare. You lie in the dark on your new bed, blinking the remenants of bad images out of your eyes, they are persistant and remain. You slowly sit up then just as slowly get on your feet as to not hurt your ribs or make the bandages strain on the cut on your chest. You pad over to the bathroom and wash your face. You notice the ever darkening bags under your eyes, while your mind keeps providing you with everything that could have gone wrong when you got yourself captured by the Shredder. This has been your routine for the last couple of nights.

Perhaps you should find some company and comfort, but you feel silly to wake up Raphael for a nightmare. You know how grumpy he gets when his beauty sleep gets disturbed. Even so your feet hesitantly take you to his room. You stop in front of his door, reach your hand out to knock then change your mind at the last second. You let out a sigh and lower yourself to the ground, and sit against the wall feeling stupid.

Until the door opens and Raphael, being for all intents and purposes naked without his mask and gear, stands in the opening looking at your curled up form on the floor. You would have blushed so hard if you had the energy to.

"Y/n what are you doing out here?" He keeps his voice low not to rouse his brothers, or worse master Splinter.

"I-I...S-sorry if I woke you up, I didn't mean to." You wisper back.

Raph rolls his eyes. "Are you gonna come in or what?" He doesn't give you a choice as he picks you up in his arms and practically drags you into his room.

He lowers you down on his bed before lying next to you, his face only inches from yours. "So why you not sleepin?"

"It..it's silly."

"Ain't that silly if it upsets ya like this."

"Eehm...I had a nightmare." You admid a bit ashamed.

Raphael feels like he wants to help you in some way, but he can't exactly use his prefered method of punching the problem until it's gone with a bad dream.

"You uuh.. wanna talk about it?" 'This is what people do in relationships right?' Raph thinks.

You shake your head.

"oh..okay." 'how the hell am I supposed to comfort her?!'

You take the initiative and curl up close, your hands rest on his plastron and your face in the crook of his neck. Raphael carefully wraps an arm around your waist to pull you closer. After a little bit his other hand reaches up and his fingers tangle in your hair, gently massaging your scalp. Your whole body relaxes and you become putty in his arms.

"How'd you even know I was outside of your room?" Your lips ghost agains his skin with every word.

"Yer boyfriend is a ninja." Raph says with affection in his voice.

You stare through the dark into each others eyes. For a while all you do is enjoy each others presence.

He covers you with blanket for comfort. You don't need it for warmth, cuddling with Raphael gives you all the warmth you need. You fall back asleep in his arms, your bad dreams being chased away by your very own hero in a half shell.

Raphael is already awake long before you are. He had noticed the dark circles under your eyes so he doesn't want to wake you, he wants to let you rest a little bit longer. He is just watching you sleep. 'She's been lookin' so down the last few days.. now she looks so peaceful sleepin. heh so cute, her mouth is hangin' open a bit.' Raphael takes his time to study your face. 'She's so beautiful I can't believe she lets me hold her like this.' Raph holds you a bit tighter. In turn, you, still asleep, hug his arm that you use as pillow. He relaxes his hold.

'I could have lost her. So glad that she's safe. I never want her to leave my arms... I'll make sure Shredder never gets his hands on her again. I will protect her, when she's right here I can keep her safe.'

Nothing but bliss this morning.

It feels wonderful to wake up in your boyfriends arms again. You'd wake up every day entangled in eachother like this if you could. 

"Good mornin'." Raphs voice is still rough from sleep as he greets you. It sounds hella sexy.

"Mornin'." You greet back with a smile, still half asleep. "how long've u be-" a yawn interrupts your sentence. "-een 'wake?" you mumble the last part.

'so cute.' Raph thinks, and smiles affectionatly. "Not that long."

He's petting your hair. 'It must look like a birds nest' You think, mildy mortified.

You take your time waking up and quietly wisper to eachother.

When you finally decide to leave Raphael's room and start the day the both of you get greeted by the door by a very annoyed Master Splinter. 

"I must remind you two I do not want you alone in the same room, to ensure there are no shenanigans."

"No sir no shenenigans from us, honest!" You say quickly. You don't think you can get any redder.

You are unable to look master Splinter, or Raph or anyone really, in the eye during breakfast. Everyone notes that Raphael is also very quiet this morning.
