Chris' POV

Life had started to settle into a rhythm with Jake living in my apartment. I had returned to work after a week of convalescence, and Steve, my ever-friendly and jovial boss, welcomed me back with open arms. His words, "Welcome back! Our bakery will be the best again because the best baker is here!" managed to put a smile on my face. It was a much-needed morale boost, and I was truly touched by his enthusiasm.

"Nice to see you and be back, Steve," I replied, reciprocating his hug.

"Are you sure you're okay now? If not, you can still have a leave," Steve inquired, his green eyes filled with concern.

I laughed, appreciating his worry, "Yes, gotta work, or maybe you'll dock my salary."

"Dock your salary? Your family owns this place, dumbass." He grinned, revealing a hint of his boyish charm. "Good thing you're back. I've missed you. I don't have anyone to talk to."

"Good to be back in business," I responded before heading to the kitchen to don my apron and begin preparing dough for the bread.

As the hours ticked by, I glanced at my watch and noticed it was already 10 PM. Worry crept in, and I feared that Jake might inadvertently cause another catastrophe in my apartment, as he had done during the past week. His antics ranged from trying to set the place on fire to nearly dismantling the kitchen equipment and even attempting to vacuum the curtains off the walls.

"Steve, I'm going out," I announced as I packed my belongings.

"Why so early now?" Steve inquired, his curiosity piqued.

"My new roommate. I'm just worried about him; he doesn't know some things," I replied, feeling a sense of responsibility toward Jake.

"You have a new roommate? Well, that's something," Steve remarked with a mischievous smile.

"Yes, I'll drop these garbages out," I said, clutching the garbage bags.

"Be safe on your way home, Chris, and good night," Steve bid me farewell.

I stepped out to dispose of the trash, and during that short walk, my thoughts wandered to the first time I had encountered Jake, the enigmatic vampire who had saved me from a perilous situation.

Jake's POV

Living with Chris had opened up a new world to me. He had been an excellent teacher, imparting various human skills, including cooking, cleaning, and other everyday tasks that I had never encountered before. I had decided to express my gratitude and affection by preparing a surprise for him tonight: my own version of spaghetti.

The preparation was meticulous. I set the table with care, arranging plates and utensils while lighting a candle for an added touch of elegance. I even bought a bottle of wine, as I had read on Mr. Google that it was a perfect complement to pasta.

The clock struck 10 PM, and my anticipation grew. As I heard a knock at the door, my excitement peaked, and I quickly rushed to answer it.

"Hey, I've got a surprise for you," I exclaimed, my heart brimming with joy.

Chris, looking a little weary, raised an eyebrow and responded cautiously, "This should be a good one."

"Trust me," I replied, hoping to put his concerns to rest.

With gentle hands, I covered his eyes with my palm and guided him to the dining area. As I unveiled his eyes, his expression was nothing short of shocked.

"You did all of this?" he marveled, his disbelief evident.

I nodded, a beaming smile on my face.

"Seriously? How did you learn all this stuff?" he inquired, his curiosity piqued.I chuckled, understanding his skepticism. "Well, you taught me how to use the internet, so I browsed some things."

Clearly enjoying his meal, he couldn't help but express his delight. "Aww, Jake, this is so good!" he exclaimed, nearly bouncing in his seat.

I couldn't have been happier. "Enjoy!"

But as fate would have it, another knock echoed through the apartment.

Knock! Knock!

"I'm going to see who that is," I informed Chris, who continued savoring his meal.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

The incessant knocking was relentless, and I quickly made my way to answer the door. Chris followed close behind, having heard the commotion.

When I opened the door, I was met with the sight of King, who appeared sweaty and out of breath.

"Jake, the Council de Bampira is hunting you," he gasped between heavy breaths.

I furrowed my brow, unable to grasp his message. "What did you say? I didn't quite catch that."King took a deep breath and, in a louder voice, exclaimed, "The Council de Bampira is hunting you! You're in big trouble, man!"

The gravity of the situation began to sink in. I exchanged a worried glance with Chris, realizing that our peaceful existence was now under a looming threat.
