All I remember, for most of my life, is darkness. It felt as if the matter around me didn't, well, matter. I tried to reach out, but there was nothing to pull me from this darkness that was constantly surrounding me. I had given up after what felt like thirteen years. But soon, after I had given up, there was a light surrounding me, then it went back to black. I opened my eyes to see I was sitting in front of a gate. Was this, the Gate of Truth? I've heard about this gate for a long time when I was in the darkness. Now, being able to sit in front of it was outstanding. I tried to stand, but my legs were weak and fell onto the ground.

"My child, you're too weak to stand," called from the gate.

"How am I getting out of here?" I asked.

"Wait and you shall see."

"I've been waiting for a long time! I want to get out of here and be free!"

"That is what we all want."

I sighed, "Why can't I be free now?"

"Because."

"Because, why?"

"You'll know the reason in a few months."

Those months had passed and I was still sitting in front of the gate. I thought I was never going to get out, but there was an opening from the other side of the gate, behind me.

"Seize your moment," called the gate.

I got up and ran out. After I breached through the small hole, I fell onto the ground. I looked up and was met with another world. A world I had been desperately after. It was nothing like I imagined. There was rain everywhere and everything seemed glum and depressed. I get up and walked somewhere. I had no where to go. As of now, I had to blend in like a normal creature. What were these things walking around? People? Seems fitting. Well, I need to blend in with these so called people. I looked at myself. I definitely looked like a person, but there was something that set me apart. There was something on my left thigh. It was red and a symbol.

"What the hell is that?" I asked myself.

"Are you lost?" came a voice.

I looked up and saw a man standing in front of me, "Why would I be lost?" I snarled.

"Hey, don't need to get all mean about it."

"What makes you think I'm angry?"

The man gave up and walked away. I walked further in the rain until it started getting heavier. Soon everyone that was walking around with umbrellas ran into the closest building or anywhere to hide from the rain. I kept on walking. Eventually, I ran into a woman this time, not a man.

"Hey, watch where you're going, lady," I snarled.

She turned around and smiled at me. I was taken back a bit. Ever since I came out of that hole, no one has shown any kind of kindness or caring nature towards me.

"I'm sorry, I didn't see you there," she said. Her voice was like the rain itself. It was thundering, but gentle.

"I-I'm sorry about running into you. And raising my voice," I said.

"It's alright. You seem lost. Why don't you come with me," she said."

I nodded my head and I followed her back to her house. It was nice, cozy, and hospitable. She set her coat on a rack to let it dry off.

"Why don't we get you some new clothes?"

"The ones I have on are alright."

"Let's dry you off though," she smiled.

She brought out a towel and dried my body off. She wrapped me in a blanket and sat me in front of a fireplace. It was so nice and warm. It was better than being outside in the cold rain.

"Now, where did you come from?" she asked.

"I don't really remember."

"Do you remember your name?"

"All I remember is being called Envy."

"Envy."

"Yeah. What's your name?"

"I'm Rebecca Solidario. Some people call me Becca for short."

"Let me ask you this, Becca, why did you take me in?"

"You looked lost and lonely. That's one of my worst flaws people pick on me about. I'm too caring that I'd let in strangers and take care of them. My neighbors think that's how I'll die one of these days. Letting in a stranger for a certain amount of time and when they're done with me, they leave."

"I don't think that's a flaw you should worry about. We need more caring people in the world," I said.

She smiled, "Envy?"

"Yeah?"

"You should stay for a while."

"You'd let me? Even though you know nothing about me?"

"I know one thing for sure. You're different than the people I've taken care of before. There's something about you that is different. I like it."

I felt myself smiling a bit. I've never felt like this before. I sighed and looked back at the red symbol on my leg.

"Becca?"

"Yes, Envy?"

"Do you know what this means?" I asked, showing her the symbol.

"I do not," she said after looking at it. I can always ask the alchemist who lives not far from here."

"You don't have to do that now. You can ask when it's nicer."

"But the rain is slowing down. I should ask him. I'll be back in a little."

She walked out and I sat there, not knowing what to do. This was the first time a person has taken me in. Was she taking pity on me? Why would she? Maybe when she knows what I am, she'll kick me out. I looked back at the fire.

"No one should know who I am."

"Look at that, Gluttony. Look at how sad he looks."

"Why is he like that, Lust?"

"Because, when he came out of that hole he has no clue what he is."

"Will he eventually figure it out?"

"I'm sure he will. Once he knows, he'll look for others just like him. He'll come crawling into our hands and then we will tell him everything he needs to know. Patience is all it takes, Gluttony."

"Understood, Lust."
