The first few months were terrible. I had to deal with work, Roy's moodiness since Riza was almost due, and not to mention I had to deal with Y/N's mood swings. First she wanted to rip my head off, then she'd be in tears because she wanted to rip my head off. It was hard to deal with at first, but we both are getting used to it. I walked into work all tired and not in the best mood. Neither was Colonel Mustang.

"Morning, Colonel Mustang," I yawned.

"Morning, Envy," he sighed.

"How's Riza?"

"She's close to delivering the baby," he said.

"I hope fatherhood goes well for you."

"Same to you."

I sat down and continued the paperwork I still hadn't finished. Because I never got a good night's sleep, I could never really focus on what I was doing and what I was reading. The hours slowly ticked by. When it was around 1 PM, Roy had gotten a call.

"Hello? What? Oh, yes. I will be right there." He hung up and looked at me, "Envy, come with me!"

"Where are we going?"

"Somewhere. Havoc, you're in charge right now!"

"Are you sure?" Havoc asked.

"Yes!" Roy called from outside the door.

We ran outside and towards the hospital.

"Roy, what's wrong?" I asked.

"The baby's coming!" he yelled.

We ran in the hospital and towards the receptionist.

"I'm here to see Riza Hawkeye," Roy said.

"She didn't want to change her last name?" I asked.

"Not really," he said.

"I'm sorry, Roy, but only the father can come into the room," she said.

He sighed and looked at me, "I'm sorry."

"It's fine. She needs you right now."

He nodded and walked towards the elevator. I walked into the waiting room and sat down. I picked up a magazine and started reading. Hours had passed and Roy came down to get me. His hair was a mess and he looked miserable.

"How did it go?"

"It was a bloody mess. I'll say that," he said. "But Riza is doing alright. She's spending time with the baby."

"Am I allowed to come up?"

"Yeah."

We rode the elevator in silence and we walked to her room in silence. We walked in and I saw Riza holding a tiny human, who was wrapped in a blanket, cradled in her arms.

"Hi, Envy," she said.

"Hi, Riza. How are you feeling?"

"In pain," she said. "But it was worth it." She looked at the child she was holding in her arms.

"What's the gender?" I asked.

"A girl," Riza said.

"Did you name her?"

"We named her Maria," Roy said.

I smiled and I looked down at little Maria, "She's so tiny."

"This is what you're going to experience when Y/N gives birth," Riza said.

I nodded. Riza didn't know about Y/N's family history and how bad it was when it came to delivering children. I don't think she wants to know.

"Is something wrong, Envy?" Riza asked.

"It's just that, Y/N has a family history of having casualties during delivery. Either being the mother or the baby."

Riza looked shocked to hear that, "That's upsetting to hear that she has to deal with that."

"That's why she never had her mother with her. Her father taught her everything about life."

Riza looked sadly at Maria, "I'm sorry to hear that."

"It's nothing we can do. I'm just afraid," I said.

"I understand, Envy," Riza said.

My phone went off in my pocket.

"Hello? Oh. I forgot. I'll be there in a few minutes." I hung up and looked at Riza and Roy, "I've got to go. Y/N is having her four month check up."

"Bring her here when her check up is done," Roy said.

"I will."

I walked out and headed toward's the room Y/N was in. When I walked in, Dr. Marcoh was there.

"Afternoon, Dr. Marcoh."

"Afternoon, Envy."

I sat next to Y/N and held her hand.

"Hey, I forgot to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"Riza and Roy had a child today."

"They did?"

"Yep. Once we're done here, I'm taking you to see them."

"Riza must be exhausted."

"She is."

The check-up didn't take a long time. Only about thirty minutes. But there was something wrong. Marcoh couldn't get a good reading on the pulse of the baby. He found the gender. If this baby were to come out alright, we'd be having a boy. He eventually got a short reading of the pulse. He did a few more tests and then we were done. We made our way to Riza's room in silence.

"How are you feeling, Riza?" Y/N asked.

"Fine. Just in some pain," she said.

"How was your check-up?" Roy asked.

"It went fine. But Marcoh couldn't really find the pulse of our baby. But he eventually did."

"Do you know what you're having?"

"A boy," Y/N said.

"Any names?" Riza asked.

"None so far. But we'll think of some," I said.

We talked to them for a while and when it was around 7 PM, we headed back to our apartment. Y/N went into our bedroom and didn't come out. I knew it was best to let her be. I sat down and pulled out a medical book that I was reading. It was all about delivery and what Y/N's family had. There was nothing on it in the book I was reading. But I kept on researching. After a while my eyes started hurting. I grabbed what I had managed to write down and walked into my room. I pulled out a big bulletin board from underneath my bed. I set it against the wall and put my notes with everything I had written. I moved a piece of paper aside and looked at a small piece. It was the transmutation circle to make a philosopher's stone. I knew it was wrong, but that was the last resort I had. That was my decision. If I couldn't find anything else, this would be the last answer I had. I pulled out another medical book and opened it to the page I marked. I looked over it a few more times and then closed it. I put the drawing of the transmutation circle back on the bulletin board and covered it up. I slid the board underneath my bed and headed into our bedroom. Y/N was already asleep. I changed and sat at the edge of the bed.

"I made a promise to you, Y/N. I will find a way to keep both you and our son."
