We returned to Amestris after a week in Xing. I returned to work and so did Y/N. It was more like paperwork for Mustang while I was gone. A week's worth of nothing but paperwork. As soon as I came into the office, there was a huge pile of paperwork on my desk.
"Envy," Roy said.
"Colonel Mustang," I said.
"How was your honeymoon?"
"Good. How was your's?"
"You should have asked that three weeks ago."
"Why?"
"That's when we went, remember?"
"That must have slipped my mind."
He sighed and shook his head, "You are forgetful sometimes."
"Aren't we all? Anyway, won't you just answer the damn question?"
"We had a nice time."
"Where's Riza?"
"She called in for a sick leave," he said.
"Did she get food poisoning or something? Because the north cities can have that sort of thing, Colonel."
"Come here for a minute." I walked towards his desk and he leaned towards me, "She's pregnant."
I looked at him with a surprised look on his face, "Congrats, Colonel," I said quietly.
"Thanks, Envy. Anything from Y/N?"
"I don't think she's able to get pregnant. If she is, she's at a high risk of dying in the process. That's what happened to her mother. It's in her family's history."
"That's upsetting."
"If I need to, I'd do anything to help her."
"I know you will, Envy. But let's not worry about it right now."
I nodded my head, "Yeah."
I walked over to my desk and started doing my paperwork. A few hours had gone by and I wasn't even halfway done. I sighed as I put down the pencil and stretched. I looked at the clock and saw I had another two hours. I picked up my pencil and that was when my phone rang. I picked it up and answered.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is this Envy?"
"This is Envy," I said, growing a bit worried.
"Um, hi, this is a nurse from Central Hospital. Your wife checked in today with a sharp pain in her stomach and it was then followed by vomit."
"Did you do any tests on her?"
"We did. She'd like you to come in and hear the results."
"I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Great. Room 809 on the 16th floor."
"Thank you," I said and hung up. I walked over to Mustang.
"Colonel, I need to head out early."
"What's wrong?"
"It's Y/N."
He nodded, "I understand. Go to her."
I ran out the door and the building. Central Hospital wasn't far from the command building. I could make it there if I ran the whole way there. Once I made it, there was a nurse waiting for me. We went up to the sixteenth floor and to room 809. I walked in and saw she was laying down on the bed. She was reading a book.
"Y/N, how are you feeling?"
"In pain," she said.
I sat next to her and grabbed her hand, "You're going to be alright."
"The doctor will be in shortly," the nurse said.
"Thank you," I said. I turned towards Y/N, "When did this start happening?"
"A few hours after you left."
"Why didn't you call me? I would have came over as soon as I could."
"I know, but I didn't want to worry you while you were at work."
I sighed, "You're a goofball you know that?"
"At least I'm yours."
We both chuckled, but Y/N grabbed her side and stopped and groaned in pain.
"I just wish I knew what was causing this pain."
"I think I can tell you that," said the doctor.
"Doctor Marcoh?" I asked.
"Envy, so nice to see you."
"You know him?" Y/N asked.
"I ran into him when the homunculi were tracking him down. I'm glad to see you got away."
"I thought I would never get out of that hell," he said.
"I'm sorry we put you through so much," I said.
"Come now, Envy. None of that was your fault."
"What's wrong with her?"
"A simple answer," he said as he handed me the results of the tests they ran. He stood there and smiled as I read through them. When I was finished, I looked up at him. I handed the papers to Y/N and walked out of the room with him.
"Are you sure about this?" I asked.
"Yes. She is 100% positive."
"But what about her family's history? Will that do anything to her?"
"It will cause damage around three to four months. That's when she needs to come in for a check up."
"Understood. Thank you, doctor."
He nodded and walked away. I walked back into the room to see Y/N in tears. They weren't from joy. They were from pain or something other than joy. I sat beside her and held her hand.
"What's wrong, Y/N?"
"My family's history," she said.
"I know."
"My grandmother almost passed away when she gave birth to my mother. And my mother passed away shortly after I was born. My father had to raise me. Envy," she began.
"Don't even go there, Y/N," I said a little too loudly. "Don't think about even letting that slip out of your mouth! I don't want to think that right now," I said, tears streaming down my face.
"Envy," she whispered.
I put my elbows on the bed and put my hand on my forehead, "I don't want to think about losing you while you're giving birth. I don't want to think about that, Y/N! Not right now!"
"I'm sorry," she said crying.
I picked my head up, grabbed a tissue, and wiped away her tears, "It's alright, Y/N. I will find a way for you to survive. Is there any other things that went wrong?" I asked.
"My great grandmother did have a child before having my grandmother. But the child died after five minutes of being born. When she had my grandmother, both of their lives were in danger. My great grandmother gave her life to save my grandmother's."
"I will do what I can to make sure you and our baby will survive."
She smiled sadly, "I just don't want to lose you as well."
"You won't."
"Trust me, Envy! I know what you're going to do!"
"And that is?"
"Your philosopher's stone. Your core. You're willing to give that up to either save my life or our child's life."
I looked at her and then at the floor, "I'm sorry, Y/N."
She sighed, "We'll figure something out."
