I woke up in the morning with Y/N's head buried in my chest and my arms wrapped around her waist. I smiled and kissed her head and rested mine atop of her's. She stirred in her sleep slightly, but calmed down a bit. I smiled and held her close. I was afraid if I even let her go the slightest bit, I would lose her again. Not now. Especially not now. I need to ask her as soon as I can. That has to be today. I smiled to myself, but was interrupted when my phone rang. I sighed, let Y/N go, and grabbed my phone. She was still clinging to my chest. I smiled and answered, forgetting to look at who was calling.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Envy, sounds like you're just waking up," said Roy.
"Colonel, is everything alright?"
"Just seeing how you're doing," he said.
"Fine, but there has to be a different reason as to why you're calling."
He sighed, "I'm sorry to say, but we need you for a very vital mission."
I sat up, Y/N still clinging to me, "What is it?"
"It's not safe to talk over the phone. Meet me, Armstrong, Hawkeye, and a few more others here."
"I'll be there shortly."
I hung up and looked down at Y/N. Her eyes were slowly opening up. I smiled and kissed her forehead, "Hey, Y/N, I've got to get going."
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"I've got a mission to do."
"Mission? What kind?"
"A very important one. It's vital Roy said."
She looked at me and sighed, "Be safe out there."
"I can't make any promises," I smiled and kissed her cheek. I got up, changed, and kissed her once more before heading out. I made sure my uniform was tidy before heading out. I walked out and was met with the cold air. I shivered as I started walking. Once I got to the command building, I headed straight towards Roy's office.
"Roy, is everything alright?"
"The mission you're taking on will be with Riza. And Riza alone."
"What?" Riza asked.
"Colonel, why would you do that?" I asked. "If anyone should be going alongside Riza, it should be you. You're married to her after all."
"I know, but we don't have time to debate this sort of ordeal! Lieutenant Hawkeye and Envy, you are needed in the East City. Resembool to be exact."
Oh no.
"There is a man running loose down there. The people living there say he's deranged and has tried shooting multiple people. He has managed to shoot one, but that only caused to be an infected leg. They're currently hospitalized now. Ed and Al are doing the best to hold him off. I cut off train station communication in Resembool so the closest you're going to get to there is through Slums. Once you're there, fire at the man. I have a photo ID so you're not randomly shooting a person."
Roy slid a photo across from his desk and I picked it up to examine it. I sneered to myself. I knew it. I knew he was trouble. I handed it to Riza as she looked at it.
"Who is this man?" Riza asked.
"That man is my father," I said.
"You're father is still alive?" Roy asked.
"Yes. He knows I'm a state alchemist. If he's killing people, that might just be to lure me in so he can kill me. He still has the one weakness to take me down."
"Your remains," Roy said.
I nodded, "Why are you even sending me?"
"You and Riza are the best fighters out of all of us in this room. We need our best fighters out there to seize the chance of stopping this man."
"I'll do it, but if I don't make it back, please," I began as tears brimmed at my eyes. I quickly wiped them away and reached into my pocket. I pulled it out and handed it to Roy. "Please, if I don't make it back, give this to Y/N. Tell her I was planning on giving this to her personally."
Roy took it from my hand and nodded, "I will."
We saluted and we headed out. We walked to the train station and rode in silence. I looked out the window the entire time. When we reached our destination, we got up and we started walking to Resembool. This was a long walk without any transportation. When we finally did make it, it was almost dusk. But there were people shooting and we could see smoke coming up.
"This was such a quiet place. Why would someone disturb it?" Riza asked.
"Believe me when I say this, Lieutenant, my father is a madman."
"How do you remember that?"
"I've seen memories of him when I first saw him. He's a madman that needs to be stopped!"
"Don't do anything too rash. Envy? Envy!" Riza called after me.
I ran straight into the battle and found Ed and Al.
"Envy!" Al called.
"How are you two holding up?" I asked.
"Not too well. He apparently had people who knew him here. He gathered them up and brought them along. It's like a rebellion."
"Why is this old ass doing this?" Ed asked. "Seventy years of age and he can shoot like a twenty year old sniper."
Just as Ed had said that, a bullet whizzed past and shot Ed in the right shoulder. He yelled out in pain and fell onto the ground.
"Brother!" Al screamed.
"Al, get your brother to safety. We can handle this," I said.
"Are you sure, Envy?"
"Just do as I say! Get your brother to safety!"
Al wrapped Ed's left arm around his neck and they ran back towards a house in the distance.
"Look at you, protecting the people you most care about," my father said.
"I'm doing something you will never do. Not even after you're dead," I said.
"You know, you're quite stupid to come here."
"What makes you say that?"
"I was once an alchemist. I studied homunculi. I figured out how they could die."
"Envy!" Riza called from behind.
I looked down and saw a transmutation circle. One that can kill homunculi.
"Get out of there, Envy!" Riza called.
"Too late," he said.
