Emily POV

4 Months Later

Jerome and I have been on several dates every day for the past four months. I already graduated from high school with honors and a full-ride scholarship to Princeton. I won't leave until August, so I have another whole month to spend with Jerome. I have fallen head over heels in love with Jerome. So much that I have been singing lately, it's a decent singing voice. Jerome has helped me cope with the loss of my parents, his mother is starting to warm up to me, and my aunt Matilda has been teaching me how to drive. I am coming back from the library after checking out 'Sense and Sensibility' by Jane Austen. I haven't seen Jerome yet so I head to my trailer. As I walk closer to the trailer, I see Edward Ngyma sitting on the steps, shaking his leg.

"Edward! How are you?" I shriek in excitement.

Edward gets up to hug me and chuckles. I then tell him,

"I haven't seen you since the funeral. How have you been?"

"I've had better days. I um, I wanted to ask you something." Edward tells me.

I look at him with such curiosity.

"I j-just wanted to ask you if you would go out with me here to dinner. I need someone to talk to."

I look at Edward and he looks exhausted, like he hasn't slept a wink. He needs a friend.

"Please? I won't take up much of your time." Edward practically pleads.

"Well, I did have a date but its still early. It's only 5:15. Let me go and tell Jerome and I'll meet you at that burger joint on 5th and Blues." I reply.

Edward smiles and walks away from the trailer. I feel bad for him. He's misunderstood, that's all. I then walk to Jerome's trailer and knock on the door. Jerome answered the door. He always has a look of surprise when he sees me.

"Hey, sweetie. You're here early."

Jerome pulled me in for a kiss. I love it when he does that.

"I just wanted to ask you if we could push our date for an hour later?" I ask nicely.

Jerome looked confused.

"Remember that technician from Gotham PD? Well, he just came to see me, and he looks so depressed. I was going to meet him for a while, but I remembered our date and he needs a friend right now. The poor thing looks like he hasn't gotten any sleep in weeks."

 Jerome sighed softly and said,

"Go ahead and see him. I do need for you to come back at seven. I have a surprise for you and I really don't want for you to miss it." Jerome kissed me again on my lips and neck.

"Thank you for understanding. I love you, Jerome Valeska." I whisper softly.

"I love you more, Emily Sterling." Jerome whispered back.

We kissed again, and I headed to meet Edward.

20 Minutes Later

After a twenty minute walk, I arrive at the restaurant ready to talk to Edward but I didn't see him. I ordered a chocolate shake with chocolate sprinkles and wait. I had brought my book in my 'hobo bag' as I call it, and decided to read a couple of chapters. Every time I would hear the entry bell going off, I'd look up from my book to see if it was Edward, but it never was. Finally, the waitress comes up to me with a note. Assuming it was the check, I pull out my wallet to pay for the shake and the waitress says,

"No sweetie. It was only a shake. I'll take care of it. Also, this was left for you at the front."

It was a folded piece of paper and it read in the front,

"The more you take, the more you leave behind. What am I?"

Underneath the riddle was a line for me to answer.

I took out a pen and replied, "Footsteps." In the back of the folded paper, it says, "If you answered 'footsteps,' then you can read the note inside!" I open the paper and inside was something weird. The message didn't make sense at all.

I apologize for the subterfuge.

Never trust someone who can't keep track of

Endless time.

Exciting, isn't it? That I am

Deciding to contact you.

How can I describe it?

Ecstasy or Obsession

Life is tiring, but you?

Pleasure is all you bring.

EN

EN. Edward Nygma. Why in the world would he send me this? Was this some joke? I place the paper in my bag and leave the establishment. I look for a nearby payphone booth to place a call to Jerome. The phone rang until finally Jerome picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Jerome, it's Emily. Edward didn't show up, so I'm heading back right now. I should be back in 20 minutes."

Jerome then says, "Okay, can you meet me by the Ferris Wheel when you get back?"

"Sure, Jerome. I'll be there. I love you." I reply.

"I love you more, Emily Sterling." Jerome says quickly.

He hangs up, and I make my way back to the circus, happy but also puzzled about why Edward left me that note.

25 Minutes Later

The circus is busier than ever. Then again, the Flying Graysons are the main attraction every weekend. I drop my bag at the trailer and go to meet Jerome at the Ferris Wheel. I see him, with his dark red hair and beautiful features.

"Hey, gorgeous." Jerome says to me, sneaking a kiss on my lips.

"Hi, handsome." I say to him.

He kisses me again with such passion.

"I want to ask you something, but come with me." I follow Jerome to the Ferris Wheel seat, and the conductor places the safety bar on us. The ride then starts up, and we head up to the top. Jerome sneaks his arm on my shoulder.

"Do you like the view?" Jerome asks me.

I nod contently.

"What did you want to ask me, Jerome?" I ask with curiousity.

Jerome chuckled and said,

"Straight to the chase. That's why I love you. You and I have known each other for only four  months but I feel like I've known you for longer. I hope you say yes because I want to be with you, forever." Jerome then flashes a beautiful three diamond engagement ring with hearts.

I gasp and say, "Oh, my! Jerome!"

Jerome silences me with a kiss and says,

"Emily Sterling, will you do me the honor of becoming Mrs. Jerome Valeska?"

Tears are starting to brim from my eyes, and I quickly wipe them.

"I can work and save money for the wedding. We can get married after you get back from Princeton. I can wait for you, my love, if you'll wait for me." Jerome says to me, with such passion in his voice.

I shake my head and scream,

"Yes, Jerome. I will marry you!"

We both kiss, and Jerome slips the ring on my left hand's third finger. We are both laughing and kissing each other with such love and kindness, not knowing what was to come and ready to face anything. Well, almost anything.
