Chapter 31-I Don't Care

Emily POV

After two days, the children were released from the hospital. Selina Marie was testing her telekinesis powers while Jerome Jr. practiced levitating from the ground. I signed the discharge papers and we walked out the door. Jim was waiting for me with Harvey, Bruce, and Alfred. All of them were anxious but Jim was the more outspoken one of the group. "What's the diagnosis?" I look at him and say, "They inherited my powers so I have to teach them how to take control of it before they become out of control like I almost did." Harvey looks at Selina Marie with curious eyes and even tried to step closer to Marie. She gave him a stare that forcefully pushed Harvey with her mind. "Unless you're paying rent, stop encroaching on my space." She sneered. Alfred laughed and said, "A little spitfire like her mother. I can't wait to see what she inherited from her father." I clear my throat and say, "Marie, I told you, not to use our powers on friends unless they're being annoying." Marie placed her hands behind her back and says, "I'm sorry Uncle Harvey. I don't like it when people stare at me, especially now with my powers." Harvey smiled and gave Selina Marie a hug. Jim then says, "If you want that reward money, I suggest that we get going." I stare at Jim in disbelief. "Are you kidding me? My kids need me and I'm not going to ditch them just so that I can be at your beck and call." Jim walks close to me. The kids go to stand behind Alfred. I know that things will be intense. My hands are heating up; electric currents running through my vein are ready to shock the hell out of Jim. I can feel my eyes changing like they did last time when I was against Strange and Peabody. "What? Are you too scared to use them? You were too much of a coward to save Jerome and now, you're-AGHHH!!!!" I unleash my powers. I electrocute Jim, sending him flying to the EMS vehicle that was parked. Jim was groaning in pain. As he tries to stand up, I give him another jolt. I walk over to him, yank his hair towards me and say to him, "I was always taught to never kick anyone when they're down, but that lesson has been thrown out the fucking window." I kick Jim in the chest, again causing him to fall back to the ground. I take a blade and hold it to Jim's throat. Jim tries to knock it out of my hand but I use my knee to hit his face. "If you EVER mention Jerome's name in front of me with disrespect, I will make sure that you are never found. No matter how many dogs search for your scent." Jim spits blood on the ground and looks at me. "We were once great friends. What happened to us?" I push him to the ground and say, "You. Your arrogance, pride, and unfairness killed our relationship. I see why Nygma framed you and why Lee left you. I loved you as a friend, Jim. But you killed our relationship. Just like you kill everything else!" I yell with tears threatening to fall from my eyes. I turn around and walk away, nudging my children to come with me. Alfred and Bruce run towards Jim while Harvey runs after me. "HEY!" Harvey yells at me. I don't stop so he continues to chase me. "You need to go back. Jim's hurt and you need to stay and talk about this." Without taking my focus from straight-ahead, I say; "Well, he's in front of a hospital. Go ahead and have him check-in." Harvey grabs my arms and yanks me close to him; in a threatening and forceful manner. "This is serious! Go back and-Jesus!" I sent a shock to him, but not as bad as Jim's voltage. "That was a sample. Touch me again and you'll get the whole damn entree." 

An Hour Later

I took a taxi to Downtown Gotham. The kids were hungry and I wanted to take them to a burger joint. As we're getting seated, I feel that someone is staring at me. I place the kids in the booth and I walk over to the cashier counter to ask for a menu. I take my seat and the kids are telling me what they want. "Mom, do they have mac and cheese?" Selina Marie asks. I look for it on the menu and as I'm about to order, I hear a female voice say, "Well, well, well. If it isn't Jim's pet orphan." I slam the menu down and see that the voice belonged to Fish Mooney. She then came into full view. She was with two other men. "Emily, you have certainly gotten around. Rumor has it, that you were in on a bounty for my head. Now, why is that? Your dead husband left you penniless, along with your dead parents. So, not only are you Penguin's bitch but also Jim's. I wonder how it feels to be used like that. Now, why don't we have a nice chat and figure out what you and I can do about Penguin? " I sigh heavily and stand up from the chair. I step close to Fish. Without saying anything, I punch her in the face. She falls backward and knocks some of the counter chairs to the ground with her. Both of her goons try to grab me but I tossed both of them to the ground as well. Fish growls in anger. She tries to punch me back but I wring her arm around her back, causing a slight sprain in her arm. I then grab her hair and hit her head twice against the counter. None of the waitresses or the manager is interfering. I then open the door and toss Fish out of the restaurant. I then proceeded to toss her goons out as well. "If you ever talk to me like that in front of my children, I kill you properly next time. I'll do what Penguin couldn't finish. As for the bounty, you're not worth my time. So why don't you go and fuck yourself, Mooney!" I slam the door of the restaurant. All the patrons of the restaurant are looking at me. I never felt more embarrassed and afraid at the same time. "I can leave if you want," I say. The manager walks up to me and shakes my hand. "Thank you so very much. That Mooney woman has been coming in here, scaring my customers and even recruiting some of them. I was so afraid to confront her. Whatever you want, you and your kids, it's on the house." I smiled, knowing that what I had done was appreciated and not judged. 

An Hour Later

We leave the restaurant, stomachs full of cheeseburgers and chocolate shakes. I know that my kids don't want to walk or drive back to Wayne Manor. "Hey, who wants to go for a ride?" I ask the kids. Jerome Jr. is excitedly saying, "Me! Me! Me!" while Selina Marie says nothing. I kneel in front of her and ask her what's wrong. "I haven't gotten ahold of flying yet. I'm scared." I look at Selina Marie and say, "Mommy isn't going to let go of you. I was scared when I started flying too but soon after, I got the hang of it and so will you. Now, children. Grab onto my hand and we'll go up. I hold both of my children's hands and we starting levitating off from the ground. Jerome Jr. is giggling while Selina Marie is clutching onto my hand for dear life. "Mommy, I'm scared." Selina Marie says. I reassure her by placing her under my arm while Jerome Jr. is flying on his own. It may seem weird to fly in the daytime but no one says anything and it's not it's illegal. I know that it sounds weird but I'm now glad that they have powers as well. In case my life was to abruptly end, I know that they will be able to take care of themselves. For the time being, I'm still alive and it's my duty to care, love, and provide for them. I have to do what's best. I have to move from Wayne Manor.
