Chapter 4

October nights

'Rebecca'

It was so cool out. We where all huddled around the fire, trying to keep warm. The sun had sunk below the tree line. Elena and Kathrine where out hunting and we were eating caught fish. Jade and Azura where good cooks, the fish was delicious. The moon was hidden tonight by dark, eiry blue clouds. A cold wind rushed through the forest. It was October after all. I shivered as a gust of wind slapped me in the face. I pulled the collar of my coat over my nose and cheeks. I decided i wanted to call Dr. Finneck.

I pulled out the holo communicator. I flipped opened the compact shaped holo and pressed the center button the key pad. I hologram appeared. "Call Dr. Finneck golden." It beeped then rang. He picked up. I saw him in the holo.

"Why hello Rebecca, how is the journey so far? I trust the others are doing fine?"

I nodded. "Yeah, its going fine. We joined up with two vampires, we are half way there Alex said."

I felt Vee pull on my sleeve lightly. She wanted to talk to Dr. Finneck. I handed it to her. Dr. Finneck said

"oh hello Vee. Are you doing well?"

She nodded.

"How is Carmen?"

Dr. Finneck's smile vanished.

"Not to good. As long as you get the antidote, she'll be fine."

Vee nodded. She handed back the compact. I told Dr. Finneck i had to go. I closed the communicator and stuck it i my pocket. Every one was settling in for the night i too lay down to sleep.

'Vee.'

In a dream

I was running. They had Alex, tied up, They where hurting him. I was running through thick pine trees. I heard yelling up ahead. Alex cryed out in pain as i left the trees. They were stabing him. Rea was standing behind him with a gun to His head.

"Run! Vee, she will hurt you to!"

He shouted.

"No!"

I screamed out, but it was too late. I heard the click of a trigger and a bang. Alex slumped to the ground, dead.

"No Alex! No!"

I screamed running to his side. I dropped to the ground. I looked up at Rea. she had the gun at me. The click of a trigger.

'Vee.'

Awake

I woke up screaming, crying, shaking and sweating. Alex was kneeling down beside he clutching my had tightly.

"What happend Vee? Where you having a nightmare?"

Alex said. I nodded then looked around. The others where still asleep. He saw me looking and said

"they sleep pretty heavily don't they. Will you tell me what you dreamed about?"

He pulled me onto his lap, holding me tightly. I nodded and through my tears, began to explain what happened. When i finished he was silent, gently rocking me back and forth and murmuring soothing words into my ear. He spoke

"its alright Vee, it was just a dream."

I nodded, still shaking. It was still almost pitch black out, so i was guessing it was just a little past midnight. The moon was covered by clouds so it was impossible to see anything other that what was lit up by the dying fire. I pulled my sleeping bag up so i was warm. Alex continued to hold me. Soon my eyes got heavy, so Alex put me gently down in my sleeping bag. He then pulled his up beside mine. He layed down and i curled up against him. He wrapped his arms around me and i soon fell asleep.
