I feel bad for him. I just told him someone he probably knew and was close to had died. It bothered him I can tell. He probably had some type of relationship or friendship with her. He needed someone with him at the moment. That someone has to be me. From the deafening awkward silence I open my thirsty dry mouth. I look at his head as he flips through the pages of the notebook that belonged to Dr. Meredith.
"I'm so sorry I didn't know she..." I say as my voice cracks here and there.
"Don't be. It's not your fault" He shakes the bad thoughts away and continues our session by checking my leg wound. He takes off my bandages and opens the slit of my pants that reveals my infected injury. He takes a look at it and touches it with his sanitized hands but I quickly wince causing him to retreat his hand away to be more generous in his movements.
"How'd this happened?" He asks looking at up at me.
"A piece of glass fell on me" I say wincing again at his movements.
"This is infected. I need to clean it" Dr. Chris says and instantly my brain says I'm gonna die. That I will have my leg chop off. This results me to feel really warm and worried.
"Don't worry, what I'll put on you won't sting but will make you feel numb for a couple of minutes" He says and pulls a bottle of something in brown and cotton swabs. All this still didn't make me feel okay. He dumps some of the liquid on the cotton and afterwards slowly touches my wound which begins to sizzle but no burning sensation at all.
I guess most of the fears are in the head.
"See no pain" Dr. Chris smiles and applies new bandages on my cleaned cut now.
"Can I ask, who's the man you are with?" He talks about Uncle Ben.
"My uncle.." I say and Dr. Chris nods his head smiling again. Again such a warm smile that doesn't seem so deadly.
"Where do you come from Norman?" He disposes the old dirty bandages in the garbage.
"I'm from Camp 5-"
"No not the camp your gorners put you in" What he meant by gorners is a certain group that we have been chosen from. I don't know who assigned me to Camp 5. I want to know why because the head of the camp wanted to kill me and I want to have a little chat. Overall I don't really know where I was born or where I was raised. It's all a mystery and in the past for me. Uncle Ben never told me about it.
"I don't know" I say giving a slight shrug.
"Well I'm from a town named Everhorn, it was filled with so much strength and kindness. It was until I left for school" He says to me trying anything to make me feel much comfortable with his presence.
"Do you have any idea of what's going on now?"
I didn't want to answer that question it all reminds me of the city and back to camp. The lies. The world how it is now. The creatures. The outsiders. It all comes back to mind and breaks me in different ways I can't imagine of. It's what keeps me awake at night. Pushing away the curtains comes through the man with the beard. The man's name is Henry. He walks in joining our session but I didn't like his crossed armed posture. It looked like if he had a problem with me. Something about this man I didn't quite understand. I questioned it but let it go afterwards.
"Anything on the boy?" Henry asks Dr. Chris who is currently writing things down on a clipboard.
"He's injured and in alot of pain" Dr. Chris says and I wanted to bolt out this room and look for Uncle Ben. I don't like being alone with people I don't fully trust yet. They can pull another outsider situation in the restaurant. I am so paranoid that I searched for my pocket knife that I don't currently have anymore. Last time I saw it was stabbed in Titan's back then completely forgot about it afterwards.
"His wrist is sprained, I'll be needing to see it" He says to Henry who looks over at me again.
"Is he bit?" He asks and feel myself remembering the disturbing creatures. Does the bite kill humans now? Can it make us all sick now? Is it contagious?
"No sign of it around him" Dr. Chris says and I finally am able to relax. What happens if you are bit?
"Name?" He asks as his blue eyes shine from the light on the ceiling.
"Norman" Dr. Chris says to him whose hands are crossed which make him look intimidating and bossy but all that had changed instantly.
"Where's my uncle?" I say to the man.
"We fed him to the mutts" I hear him say and he's lucky he's joking because I would've attacked him. They both laugh and I grew a bit of envy for the bearded one. Who does he think he is to be playing around with me? He's an outsider. The enemy. Just like everyone else roaming around this place. They all seek vengeance on anyone for what had occurred to their past.
"I'm just messing with you. How about changing your face expression once in awhile, it's a way the scavengers don't think you are an easy target" The man says and I don't know what are scavengers?
"What are scavengers?" I ask the him just plain out bored.
"The crazy people out there" He says simply and he refers to the outsiders I got involved with in that restaurant. The ones who probably raped many other boys and girls.
"Oh..." I think he caught what I just done. My sadness is all over the room and they both can feel it.
"Where'd you come from?"
"My uncle already told you...." I say not in such mood for anything at the moment. I just want to go back to Uncle Ben.
"I need confirmation from you" He says.
"I'm a survivor from Camp 5" I say and I'm willing to tell my experience in that camp for whoever asks for it. I will tell them all the details and events that occurred in that camp where it's all gone downhill along with friends of mine whose life shall not be taken for no apparent reason.
