The Bryne Runaways (Updated)

Chapter 66

I follow behind Michael as he makes his way to wherever Titan is taking him in a hurry. They both walk beside each other talking about something I can't quite fully understand yet. We are at the west barriers of the base where the wires have been bent and covered in blood and on the other side of our base some of the traps have been set off and the horrific thing is that there is blood everywhere. I look over to Michael who doesn't take his eyes off this.

"What happened here?" Michael asks Titan.

"I don't know, I was just passing by when I saw it all" He tells the truth for what I believe. I don't think anyone should go over to check it out. It looks way too dangerous. It can be a trap and someone will end up severely injured or worse dead..

"Titan go to office and open this gate" I look at him like if he's crazy.

"What! This is damn crazy!" Titan says.

"Do it!" Michael tells him loud and stern. Titan shakes his head then runs to office. Michael looks back to where he is staring at and I tell him something.

"You're gonna get yourself killed" I hear the gate alarm go off and the gate itself begins to open.

"Stay here" He tells me taking out a pistol he has in his back sheath. He begins walking onto the other side and very cautious with anything. I thought he needed back up so I ran over to him not ever listening to anyone, not even myself. I see the barricades, abandoned cars, the blood splattered on the ground and from now my point of view as well as Michael's a dead animal spewing out its contents from its stomach behind an abandoned car. I cover my nose and look away quickly.

"Who did that?" I ask Michael but he doesn't respond just kneels down and removes the arrow off the animal. I look at the car where I notice has three lines going down covered in red paint. Those are the markings I've seen in the woods when Uncle Ben and I were in hunter territory. Michael comes over and takes a look at the mark.

"What is that?" I ask him hoping he actually answers me.

"It's a hunter symbol" He spills to me. 

"I don't understand we made a treaty" Michael says before we leave back to base. I look back at all the blood trails from here in the base as the gate begins to shut together. The pack's gotta a new problem now.

I sit down outside on top of the hood of one of Colin's work in progress cars. I finished all my work for today so I get the rest of the time to myself. I've spent some time with Roxy but she got tired and fell asleep on my bed. All I do now is wait for Uncle Ben come back as I rip apart tall weeds that had grow from the concrete on the ground. I look up at the sky and it begins to get dark.

I hear my stomach growling and I'm very hungry and dinner isn't for another hour. I look down at the trail mix I got from Michael just because he was feeling generous after me. I'm supposed to wait for Uncle Ben so we can eat this together but he takes way too long. I grab the bag and open it putting a handful of trail mix into my mouth. I feel my hunger begin to fade away and the whistle note is finally heard right after I swallowed the mix.

I get off the hood of the car and the main gate opens with three hunters entering and a vehicle right behind them. That's probably Henry and Dr. Chris. The car makes its way to the garage and me to Uncle Ben with the bag of trail mix in my hand. He takes me in a tight clutch enjoying my presence. I lift my head to look over his shoulder where I catch those hard cold blue eyes watching directly over at us. Why is he looking over here? I ignore him and pull apart from Uncle Ben.

"How come you didn't say goodbye?" I tell him as he rests his arm on my shoulders.

"There's no need for it if I'm returning" He says and I nod forgetting about the trail mix in my hand.

"Look what I have!" I say excited about the snack as we walk and talk to our chambers. I look back to where Henry stood but he's no longer there.

I eat dinner next to Uncle Ben as we both converse about what happened at the barriers on west gate. I told him about the dead animal and the three line marks. I told them it was a hunter symbol. We'd talk about some other things and we'd have a great time like always, we would make jokes and funny faces like we used to do but my happiness was ruined by her when she walked in the diner yelling 'mutt' and looking right at me.

She's talking about Roxy.

"The boy has a dog living in his room and has been feeding it our bait" Lily tells everyone in here and things gets serious when Henry gets up as well as others. I shake my head.

"Norman is that true?" Henry looks at me directly and seriously.

"No" I lie.

"Check his bedroom" Lily doesn't shut but adds fuel to the fire. I thought they weren't gonna check my bedroom but they were heading outside to make sure it isn't false information.
