I get escorted out the room I was in for by Henry who's behind me and I don't feel so safe with him behind. He can pull anything on me. He's not trustworthy yet. He's not my friend he's just an outsider helping me. That's rare to find around. I push the door and I come in contact with Uncle Ben who is sitting on a chair holding his axe as one other survivor from here watches him closely. It is Titan, the muscular tall dark fellow who caused my injury. There is tension in the room and I bet they both won't end up being best friends but really great enemies here. I can picture it.
I make my way over to Uncle Ben who looks at the cast on my sprained wrist. Luckily this isn't a major injury that I would be wearing a hard thick cast this one is lighter and dark blue. When Uncle Ben saw the cast he sent a death stare at Titan who smirks. He doesn't care.
I then thought in my head that Titan shouldn't have done that.
Uncle Ben quickly gets up in a pissed off way and faces Titan, getting in each other's space. I was going to stop him till Henry got in the middle of it separating them so we both won't have anymore injuries. Mostly Titan.
"That's enough of that. Stop trying to kill each other. You both aren't the enemy!" Henry says and I think to myself what he said is a complete lie. They don't know what we are capable of doing.
"Titan get back to Michael, tell him we have two newcomers" And with that Titan leaves the room giving Uncle Ben a not so nice stare.
"Thanks but we can't stay here" Uncle Ben informs Henry.
"That boy needs to be seeing that doctor daily now. He's no longer able to leave. Spending your nights out there is great risk for you both, surely once you leave our gates you won't be heading very far. Here is safe, safe for the boy." Henry says and I wonder what'll they need us for. I'm not so sure being here is a good thing but I accepted. Nowhere is safe for us now and for nobody. As long as I'm with Uncle Ben, I'm good.
Uncle Ben accepted.
I had a bad feeling about staying here but I'm just paranoid.
Uncle Ben and I walk behind Henry who is leading us somewhere I don't know of. I feel looks on me once I'm outside but I didn't want to make eye contact with whoever is staring, I am just looking at the pistol hanging from Henry's belt which looks very promising. Henry pushes through the double doors entering a building in where everything that is useful to help the world like maps and radios. Once I have entered the building my eyes go directly to the large map planted on the incredible large table in the center of this whole building. Marking things down is a brown haired man with a shaved face, he wears a blue shirt and body armor who is crossing things out on the map.
His brown eyes go up from the map and to Uncle Ben then over to me. I look at the map where there's plenty of red crosses on the map. What does those all mean? Death? Invasion? If that's what it meant then sadly the entire map is filled with red crossings all over it. I look up from the map to the man with the armor who still looks at me.
"This place here is the meeting room for discussions and agreements" He refers to the place we are in now.
"Like the agreement of accepting them in" The man with the armor on his chest says.
"We can use their help" Henry retorts back and then coming from the back of the room is Cruz who is bringing in boxes to the center.
"Right on time Cruz, show the new recruit around" Henry says and Cruz nods and puts a hand on my back, beginning to walk away as I look back at Uncle Ben right before the double doors shut close leaving him by his lonesome with two strangers.
"What's your name?" Cruz asks me as we walk outside in their territory.
"Norman" I say sheepishly.
"Nice name pup, I'm Cruz" He says from beside me as we enter the first building which is the Diner I first saw once I had entered here. The bells jingle from the Diner door on top of my head and I have exposed myself to some people here already. She is tough, she has short messy hair, piercing green eyes, freckles on her tan colored cheeks and a nasty mad look. I saw her in the beginning, she and Titan are talking about something but quickly stopped for some reason.
"This is the Diner, this is where we eat" Cruz says to me and those green eyes go on me which are the girl who looks at me from head to toe not making me feel so good. Titan just looked over and tried holding in his laughter. No doubt that we won't become mates.
We leave the Diner going around other places and so far their territory they have here is interesting. It's comforting I guess you can say. It isn't home but this a way I can survive right? Cruz had shown me the armory, where they hold and store all the weapons. The laundry, where all clothes shall be washed. The gym, which is the training center. The gasoline station, mostly used for the tattoo guy with a cap on named Colin who used the place to fix and customize vehicles. The control room, where they control the lights and water pressure. This place is good it has food, sleeping arrangements and running water.
I walk up the stairs two the second floor of the motel and I remember that I forgot to thank Cruz for helping me earlier in the beginning.
"Uh- thank you for helping me earlier" I say to Cruz.
"No problem, it's what we have to do for each other now" He says looking down then to unlocking my new headquarters. He opens the door and I see two beds with extra sheets folded for both beds. The walls are painted with sadness and this atmosphere has prohibited happiness. I look around the room and it felt so vacant and depressing. I enter feeling quite hollow and colorless, this bedroom made me devastated.
"Hey, that's how I felt the first time, you'll get used to it" He leans on the door frame covering the light. I remove my pack from my shoulders and place it on the floor, taking a seat on the bed. This room doesn't feel the same. It's not like camp. It's very different.
"I know it's hard, that's how I was when I was a newcomer here" He enters the room trying to help but I want to help myself right now with some sleep at least.
"Thank you again" I say and he sends me a friendly grin which doesn't seem like his type of smile but it made me feel welcomed.
"Well I got to go back and help, so I'll see you around" He begins to leave until...
"Oh wait! Welcome to the pack, pup" He shuts the door leaving me alone in the darkness.
