I lay in bed all morning long, skipping my blood giveaway with Dr. Meredith and breakfast time not trying to get involved or be near Uncle Ben yet. It's embarrassing how he just looked at me. I don't want to see him because of what had occurred last night with the nightmare. Where I was in the woods and as the darkness was compelling me. And worse where I pissed the bed. I shake away the bad thoughts of last night once I hear someone's footsteps enter the room. It's Bones who has entered all geared up. He goes through a drawer searching for something.
"Where you going?" I ask Bones as I get off my back from the bed.
"Somewhere, I'll be back. Don't do anything stupid" He says with a steady voice grabbing a combat knife from the drawer.
"Can I go?" I ask Bones who has a knife in his hands.
"No" I argue back with him on why I'm not able to.
"Because what I'm doing isn't for you"
"What are you gonna go do?"
"Something"
"I wanna go"
"No you're staying here"
"But there is nothing to do here"
"Then go home" Here's the thing, I don't want to.
"But I want to go with you" I'm hoping to try to convince him like I do to Uncle Ben but this is two different people who are not very similar from each other. Uncle Ben is outgoing and Bones is reserved. A big difference.
"No" He tightens his grip on the knife.
"Please" Bones is gonna kill me if I continue this act, I think to myself.
"Fine!" He caves in, instead of sticking the knife he has into my skull. It's what I was afraid he was gonna attempt.
"But you will not leave from my side! You hear me?" He says and I'm feeling like I shouldn't go anymore just from hearing that. What are we gonna do anyways? Murder someone?
"Okay, I won't" I say
"Good, now go change"
I walk beside Bones as we cross the field where currently a couple of people are training here hard for the grand games which is closer to us than I thought. It's coming faster to us than ever. It can seem long but no way it is.
"Are you here to train for the games?" I ask Bones where he hands me the knife.
"I guess you can say that" I take the knife from his hands and hold it tightly in the palm of my hands.
"I've trained before. Why did you say this isn't for me?" A long time ago I trained but I was told I don't need it. I look at the knife handed to me. It's sharp and thick. It's not like the practice one we get handed, this one is a killer. I would get in trouble with Uncle Ben if he ever saw me with a knife like this. It's just not for me.
"Just wait for it" He grins and I don't know if I should be worried or not. A piercing noise is heard from my ears making me wince at the pain around me. I look over to where a man has blown a whistle and door has opened arriving the trainers but just not ordinary trainers, the aggressive ones who are no longer kids who are on their way to being hunters. My eyes go up to Bones who has this smirk plastered on his face. I swallow the lump on my throat and walk back a bit.
"Are we supposed to train with them?" I managed to get out.
"You wouldn't even handle them. You're lucky, I'm not being a dick right now" He says and I grip my knife tightly as I see pair of eyes look at me. Three guys stand in front with crossed arms looking at us but mostly me.
"Come on" He says moving me along somewhere different as the looks of the other trainers grow on my back. Hungry vicious predators. I look back and I catch one with pitch black hair laughing his bottom off and I knew if I did something reckless I'd have my life handed to me.
"Pay attention! Over here!" Says Bones catching my attention as we are in the shady part of the field.
"Good thing about having you with me is that I have someone to train with" Bones says.
"Alright. I know you don't know much about training so show me what you got" I raise my brow at him and I really don't fight with anyone. So I don't know that much.
"Do you know anything?" He asks and I just shrug shyly and embarrassed.
"I guess not"
"Look here, I'm gonna help you train. Just because I feel bad for you" He says and I allow him to. A little training won't kill me right?
"Uncle Ben says I don't need to fight. It's not the way to solve a problem" I say to him and he just looks at me.
"So when those things out there go after you, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna have a talk with them and their parents?" I raise my eyebrow. He looks at me stupidly I think he knows.
"You're an idiot. No you'll get yourself killed Normie" He says then I just realized what he just said. I smile at our progress. It's improving.
"I'm going to teach you the basics. They will come in handy when you need them" He says and I nod. Okay. I'm ready.
We go on with Bones teaching me maneuvers and how to block punches and knives but I know I'll forget these things because I'll end up being dead than having a good fight with my rival. I currently run for the knife where Bones had thrown it and missed the tree which is his target. I pick up the knife and I back up into a chest that isn't Bones nor anyone I know but to the three predators who look at me like if I were their meal.
