The past couple of days have been hard for Uncle Ben and I but mostly for Uncle Ben due to what had occurred in the city. They had told me there was an attack out there. The creatures and the scavengers attacking stranded civilians that were trying to flee the scene. The rage that went on triggered the arrival of a bomber and bombed in the city way too early.
After I was put into the shelter the rest of the pack including Uncle Ben had made their way over to the city to help and fight back as much as they can but they were already too late. All the civilians had perished by getting torched into a mighty fire. A lot of innocent children died and hungry survivors as well. They all burned alive.
The death of the civilians left Uncle Ben wounded deeply. I had helped him recover those desolated times by doing the most for him.
It hurt me seeing him hurt.
I walk to my next assignment which is check if the turrets have ammunition, no breaches on the barriers that we have here and report anything suspicious to Henry but luckily nothing has been suspicious to me. As I walk to a barrier I hear grunts and thuds come from beside me. All the noises I hear come from a building. I look over and this red door is strangely wide open, I walk slowly to the door closer and closer to the noises I hear clearly.
Once I make it to the door I'm able to see it all and not to worry much. I see in the training center where couple of the pack is training except for Henry and the hunters that have left a while ago. I see as they train with dangerous weapons. They fight and train very rough. I see the punches go deep into the punching bag, the perfect stabs into the dummy, the swift movements they do. All the sweat and the drops of blood falling from their lips. The way they do things around here is much different and it's this type of rush that flows in the blood. I stop when I see Titan who smirks and shuts the door from the building also bringing me back to myself.
I walk to the barrier on the east of the territory and check the turret's ammunition which are full so I check off turret two on the clipboard, I had to take it with me to be on track. I check for any problems here and there's nothing wrong here. From the corner of my eye I see an arrow fly on a sandbag tearing apart letting out sand everywhere. I look up from the bag to see the archer who had saved us a couple times back in the city and in hunter territory.
"What was that for? I need to clean that up now" I say to the archer who is sitting on top of a car with his bow beside him. How'd he get here?
"I'm an archer how other way am I supposed to catch someone's attention?" He says sarcastically and he's not wrong actually.
"What are you doing here?" I tell him gripping my knife without him noticing at all. I think I'm just overreacting.
"I brought someone for you" He hops off the car and opens the car door revealing my furry friend name Roxy who I thought I lost by one of those creatures. She runs to me but immediately stops when she meets the wired fence which hurts me deeply because she begins whimpering and looking for a way in but there is no way just by the main gate and I can't open that large gate to let a pet in. I'll get ripped apart by Henry if I do.
I put my knife away and extend my hand carefully through the wired fence to let Roxy lick my palm and she does.
"Where'd you find her?" I say looking up at him.
"She was stuck under a cabinet in a building. Took some muscle but I got her out and I remembered she was with you so" He tells me and I feel much worse inside just imaging Roxy stuck crying.
"Is she bit?" I ask him and he kneels down to pet Roxy as well.
"Fortunately she's not but is hungry" He tells me and I nod. I can't keep her here, they'll do something with her if they catch her with me. I can't her put her through it.
"I really don't know if they will allow her" I say but I really don't know how I'm gonna sneak her in my room. I don't want to take her and put her through it but she began whimpering for me again. I couldn't resist so I thought of something.
"Do you have anything to protect my palms from getting slashed?" I ask him and he just pulls on the wires with the gloves he has on already and his boot holding the other wire down. Roxy enters the territory unhurt but really joyful to see me. I stroke her fur and she licks my face like she would do.
"Thanks for helping her. I appreciate it" I say and he nods about to walk away but I call him back. What's he doing this a safe environment to be in. Why is he leaving?
"You're not gonna enter. You're a survivor and we save survivors here" I say plus it's not safe out to be out alone out there in this infested world.
"This place isn't for me. I do things on my own anyways"
"How come?"
"They run things here very differently and some things doesn't feel right in there. Things in there might end up hurting you in such ways" He tells me and I'm shocked and surprised. Why is he telling me this?
"What else do you know?" I ask him wanting to know more about this secretive pack.
"Just watch your back around there" He advises me and leaves right away disappearing into the trees. I look down at Roxy and let out a huge breath. She will not leave my sight. I can promise that.
"I won't let anyone take you" I say to her and I begin walking to my bedroom hiding and covering over objects with Roxy behind me not trying to get caught with anyone. We end up making it to my bedroom safe and luckily not seen by anyone. I shut the door behind me quickly locking it and finally taking a breather for once. I look up at my bed and Roxy is sprawled around my bed rolling over like crazy enjoying this place already. I couldn't help but crack a smile it's a nice warm feeling that we all cannot resist. I walk over and I take a seat right beside her. She wiggles her body around me taking over my personal space but I don't mind her to.
"They won't let you be here, but I won't let them take you away from me. I'll do what I can to keep you with me. I'm sorry I left you behind with those things out there. I won't do it again because you'll be with me" I say to her as she listens amazingly while she hovers over me because she's always very protective of what she loves. I think Uncle Ben must've had something to do with that. I doubt he didn't.
I shut my eyes feeling some type of feeling of happiness and regret for some apparent reason that I have no clue about. Why does life just have to be fixed with mixed emotions? Like it changes in a quick minute. Why does it all feel like I should be happy? But in reality there's always something holding me back from my happiness. It's like a tight grip on me that doesn't allow me to leave yet. What do they want from me? I just want to yell at the world for not letting me be happy but it's not the world's fault. I just can't be happy when the whole world isn't.
I snap out of it when I hear a knock on the door. I react quickly and begin pushing Roxy into the bathroom shutting the door. There's another knock on the door that makes me much guilty and anxious all of a sudden. I hurry to the door opening it instantly tired of all the knocking. I see the face of Colin and I wonder what's he doing here?
"Yeah?" I say as he just stands there showing off his tattoos.
"I need your help with something. Do you mind?" He tells me.
"No I don't" I say exiting the room and quickly shutting the door behind hoping that Roxy doesn't do anything reckless while I'm gone also hoping Colin's job for me doesn't take long.
We go all the way to the big garage he's always in where he opens the huge door lifting it up to reveal a bunch of car parts all over and a motorcycle that needs fixing. He kneels down to the motor and begins fixing.
"What's my job?" I ask him as I sit on the chair waiting.
"I need you to clean the mess around here" He says and I cringe. I'm not a maid. Who does he think he is?
"Okay" I say because I can't get in trouble. I gotta do my job. As I start cleaning the place around picking up bottles of liquor and sketch papers that have been missed into the trash. Who's been drawing? I open one up seeing through the crushed paper a vehicle concept art. I throw the paper away into the actual can when I accidentally knock something down. I look down to see a bat with spiked nails on it covered in blood from what seems not so long ago.
