"Yes!!" Kokona laughed, throwing her arms in the air and laughing, "Yes yes yes!!!"
"What happened?" C asked curiously, walking over to Kokona. For once, her hair wasn't bouncing everywhere with a mind of its own; instead, it was wrapped up in a bun. But even that wasn't very neat, and blue curls had still found their way into covering half of her face, even with the majority of them pulled back. "What's got you so excited?"
"The American government disbanded the SPK!" She exclaimed, looking more happy than she had for a long, long time, "They said they're not gonna fight against Kira anymore, and other countries are gonna be doing the same!" Kokona pumped a fist in the air, and laughed again, celebrating this big slice of freedom that they had just been handed.
"What??" C exclaimed, leaning over Kokona's shoulder to look at the computer screen herself. "A, this is so awesome!!! Kira's winning again!"
"I wonder if the SPK is gonna try to operate in secret," Kokona looked thoughtful, her short celebration already coming to a close. Her mind was pulling her back to reality, the reality in which the war for Kira was still so far from being over. "If they do, it's not exactly good news... but at least they won't have the support of the government or the people anymore. So hopefully that will make a big dent on their funding."
"Do you think they got any money from L?" C bit her lip nervously, "I mean, weren't they led by that L heir dude? Will cutting away government funding really be that big of a problem for them? Or will it just... make things slightly less convenient, and that's all?"
Kokona looked down, staring at a random wood tile in the floor as though it would reveal all of the answers of life to her, "I'm not sure... I know that Near and Mello were the heirs, but only Near is in the SPK though, Mello was in the mafia. Until the taskforce... you know, blew it up. I don't know where he is now or what he's doing." She changed her glance from the floor to the ceiling, and continued speaking, "I doubt Mello is getting any money from L based on the fact he joined the mafia; as for Near I have no idea.
"Maybe Mello gave up after he lost the mafia?" C asked hopefully, still standing behind Kokona. C put her head down and rested it on top of hers, before she spoke again. "Maybe after losing the government support, Near will do the same?"
"These are L's heirs we're talking about here, C." Kokona reminded, leaning back in her chair and folding her arms across her chest, "I highly, highly doubt that either of them are just going to 'give up' just like that. L wasn't the type to do that, and I doubt he'd ever consider anyone who was that type to replace him. That'd just be completely out of character for him."
"True," C sighed, and walked over the couch a few feet away from Kokona. She sat down and pulled her hair out from her bun, apparently deciding she did not like it anyway except when it was free to fly everywhere. "This is getting frustrating. I feel like we haven't even been doing anything useful for the last few days."
"Me neither. But honestly, I'm not sure what we can do." Kokona mumbled, resting her head on the palm of her hand. "Kira told me he had a plan, and I gave him a list of the SALL members. He told me he's gonna find more about each of them and then decide which to use for said plan. But despite that, I still feel like we're doing nothing. Like we're just a backup for him, not the soldiers."
"Well maybe that's a good thing?" C suggested after a few moments of silence, not making eye contact with Kokona at first, "I mean, soldiers die in war. If we're not the ones on the front lines, then we can live to see Kira's true reign. Isn't that what we've always wanted, A? To live in a peaceful world where Kira is king and god?"
Kokona shook her head in disagreement, getting up from her chair and moving to sit besides C. When she did sit down, C scooted over to be closer. Kokona sighed, "No. What I want is to have played a part in getting him to that point. I want my life to have meaning, and I want that meaning to be I helped bring about a peaceful world under Kira. So far, I can't say I've done much at all."
"A, you have!" C threw her hands up, staring at Kokona in disbelief. "I can't believe that you would say something like that, you have played a huge role in this! You helped kill L; who was, need I remind you, Kira's biggest enemy of all time. I'm pretty sure that that earns you a place in future world history books."
"First off, that was H. Not me." Kokona corrected, "And second, L isn't dead. Well, he is. But if his heirs are still here, fighting, then he hasn't really lost yet. Third, I don't want a place in history books. I want to help but I'd rather stay out of the spotlight if I'm being completely honest."
"Kira wouldn't have known H had existed if not for you," The blue girl countered, "You recruited her. You did so much in this war. And these guys aren't as strong as L, not really... Kira is gonna win, A. And even if you completely stopped right now, then you have helped make the world a better place." She gently elbowed her, and grinned, "And sorry, but after everyone is beaten I'm pretty sure SALL is gonna become well known. I'd be surprised if it doesn't at least make a paragraph in the 'How Kira Became Ruler' book."
Kokona laughed, "And who is gonna write this book?"
"Well me of course, duh," C joked, but then her expression changed from a humorous look to a grim and serious one, "I'm serious, A. You have done so much. You helped a lot, and you have made a name for yourself. Believe it!"
Kokona looked doubtfully at her. "Well, I'm pretty sure most of what you have just said was a piece of crap, but thank you." In response, C just laughed and threw her arms around Kokona, hugging her. Kokona squeezed back, before she stood up. "I gotta go, I have a meeting with R." She told C, grabbing her bag from a chair and tossing her jacket over her shoulder - to be worn later.
"Be careful." C warned, standing up and kissing Kokona's cheek. "Don't get kidnapped and killed by anti Kira guys, okay?"
Kokona laughed, "Alright, no promises. I'll see you later." She called, and with that she walked out of the house and slammed the door shut behind her.
Once she left, C sat back down, smiling to herself as she grabbed the remote from besides her to switch on the TV. She watched the news for a couple of minutes, before clicking through the channels trying to find something more interesting to watch.
"Stupid... Stupid.... Good but not good enough to rewatch... Stupid... Stupid..." She muttered to herself, changing the channel over and over again for 10 minutes straight.
But as she did, she noticed something out of the corner of her eye. Something small, barely able to be seen, resting between the window and the painted wall on the far left side of the room.
She stood up, walking slowly over to where the strange glint of reflected light was. She carefully grasped it between her fingers, carefully pulling it away from the spot on the wall it had been for who knew how long. It was tiny, so it didn't surprise C that she hadn't noticed it there before. She turned it over in her hands, looking cautiously over the item.
"Oh my god..." She whispered, her entire face going pale as the realization of what it was truly hit her.
A knock was heard from the door. C didn't move, and shouted a shaky "It's open". Seconds later, the door creaked open, and inside walked her new red haired friend.
"Hey Chiyoko, I think last time I was here -" Daniel stopped mid sentence, his face turning slightly pale. "Oh shit..." He whispered, wincing slightly, "You were definitely not supposed to see that."
