:Chapter 8:
With Jayden behind me, I had a few good adventures back as Artemis. I realized now that maybe turning human for two years was a bit of a cowardly act, but I wasn’t just thinking of myself at the same time.
So to not cause harm to anyone human anymore, I decided that I would no longer travel with a companion. Sadly, this made me very lonely. Even saving Cesar from a Blumbicoly attack didn’t bring me the satisfaction it should have since I didn’t have a friend to save the Roman Emperor with. Nevertheless, I stayed purposely away from companionship.
I woke up and left my waterbed after a long night of sleep. I had an obsession with water and fishes and all that which explains that window to the sea in the main room. I loved feeling like I was underwater, I wasn’t sure why, but I loved it.
I force myself to the bathroom and tied my long red hair into a high pony tail the way I liked it and coated my lips with a layer of bright red lipstick. I didn’t wear much make up, but I never went anywhere without my ruby red lipstick.
After a quick breakfast, I made my way to the main room and down the stairs to inside the little pit where the controls were. I took a moment to think. Was there anywhere in particular that I wanted to go? Anytime? Any person I would like to meet? Not really…
I set the TARDIS at random and started the engine – leaving the breaks on so it would shake a little to make my chimes ring beautifully. A moment later, I landed and checked the dial. August 6th, 1988, London, England. I looked out the window that showed me the exterior. It was raining heavily and the 80s weren’t my favorite years. I groaned. Do I stay and see what there is to see or leave now to see if I could land somewhere better. I never leave really before at least taking a look, but I was tempted to look for something better.
Then I caught a glimpse of something in the window. A face that seem familiar. The person had now turned a corner and had disappeared, but I hurried out of my TARDIS into the rain. I ran directly into the street they turned in and caught them running quickly down the road. I forced myself to run as fast as I could to catch up, but he turned another corner and when I reached the corner, I turned to find an empty street. I frowned looking around. I could have given up there, but they didn’t call me Artemis for nothing. I smelled the air and got a hint of the scent I was looking for, something out of the ordinary. Upon smelling it, was hit with a truth that troubled me. This couldn’t be… How could that possibly be? I mean, they all died…
I caught trace of the smell and followed it. I was now soaked by the rain, but I had something else on my mind. Was it hope?
Finally, after about 15 minutes of hunting them down, I arrived in front of a large black building. With no doubt, I knew they were inside. I took a moment to analyze the place. Walk through front door? Climb through a window? Which way was safer?
I decided on not taking chances. I walked straight through the front door. To my surprise, it was a lovely reception area with beige couches and a front desk with a lovely young women sitting behind it. Maybe there was no danger to this place at all.
“You must be Vicky O’Malley?” the receptionist looked up at me.
I went along with it and nodded yes. She sighed irritated.
“You are late! You should have been here 30 minutes ago. Put on your uniform and go directly to room 42 on the 8th floor,” she ordered, placing a pile of black clothing and black boots on the desk.
I smiled, taking them and finding a bathroom to change. Quickly, I changed into the black jumpsuit that kind of reminded me of Cat Woman and the Black Widow – for those who know super heroes. I laced the boots that were good quality and well made for running. I took whatever what was in the pockets of the clothes I came in with – psychic paper and sonic laser – and put them into the pockets of my jumpsuit. No problem hiding paper, but the sonic made a suspicious bump in the pocket, forcing me to place it in my bra, in between my breast. I left the bathroom, abandoning my old clothing – I wasn’t going to run back to the TARDIS to put them away now was I?
I walked across to the reception and took the elevator. At that moment, I saw a red head girl walk through the doors and to the receptionist.
“I’m so sorry for being late! Vicky O’Malley, my name should be on the list,” she said.
The doors of the elevator closed on me before I could hear them realize I was a fake. The doors only opened again once I was at the last floor of the building. There was only one hallway with about five doors – two on each side and one at the end. The one at the end happened to be room 42. I walked over to find that it was locked and I had to enter a code. In mid session of pointing my sonic later on the dials and letting it crack the code for me, I wondered what I was doing. Why was I taking Vicky’s place? Why was I going here? But then the smell really hit me when the doors opened. The smell I was hunting was very strong in this room. But all there was in this room where guns on the walls. It was a small square room with handguns everywhere. And a man. One man in the same get up as me standing in the corner at me.
“New here? Take a gun and get into the room. Once there just shut up and stand in line,” he ordered.
I nodded and took one of the handguns, placing it into the gun holder and walked through the door next to the man. There, in front of me was a line of people dressed like me who also had guns, turning their backs to me. They all had their hands in their backs and looking like military men and women. I walked over to the left side of the line and placed myself like them, analyzing the room around me. The walls were all blank and white. There was no ceiling, but a dome shaped window over our heads.
Finally, I found him. Standing in the bottom of the room, facing us and completely defenceless, the Doctor looked worriedly at the man in a black and expensive suit standing in front of him.
