A year later...

I shove the Chinese food happily into my mouth.

"Pig!" Katlyn snorts.

I roll my eyes at her.

"You're here all the time!" She sighs. I know what's coming next so I chew and swallow and begin the speech in a mimicking tone.

"Skylar, you should stay here with me. Come and live with me. This loft is big enough and New York is a dangerous place!" I say, perfecting my sister's voice.

"To which I would reply,  Katlyn I wanna live the student life. I know New York is dangerous but I'm either always here or on campus and but as a proud photography student, I'll say this: if I move in with you, I'll see dad more often and that's not happening." I say and she throws a glare at me before taking the Chinese takeaway cartons to the kitchen.

She lives just a few blocks away from my dad and that would be torture. I finally gained independence by coming to live in New York for college  and I was happily taking a photography course. No way would I have another parent guarding my every move.

The doorbell rings and Katlyn calls for me to get it. It's probably dad. Speak of the devil.

I sigh and dump the half empty box on the coffee table and walk towards the door. I admire my pink toenails distractedly as I walk to the door, barefoot. I don't even bother to put the noodles down or swallow the large amount of food in my mouth before answering, that's why I nearly choke when I finally open the door.

"It's rude to open the door with food in your mouth." He says with a mocking smile.

"How did you find me?" I blurt. Oh shit. That sounded way rude.

His eyes widen and he bursts out laughing. "I swear I'm not stalking you, it's just that you weren't on the campus and I just moved here and heard you were gonna be coming to school here..." He trails off.
I gape at him again before remembering my manners and finally managing to swallow my food, I ask in a more polite tone "No, but how did you know I was here?" I ask, still confused .

"Oh." He smiles and shrugs. "Your roommate.

"Well, that's great!" I say sarcastically, running a hand through my hair. We look at each other awkwardly for a while before I leap up to hug him, catching him off guard.
Slowly, he returns the gesture, circling my waist securely.

"It's been forever! We have so much catching up to do! Let me grab my camera and we can go for lunch, yeah?" I gush, immediately falling back into an old pattern with him.

He nods his head, possibly taken aback by my friendly behaviour. I was ignoring the fact that I was halfway through lunch currently and would be going to grab another one.

I walk inside the spacious loft "I'm going out now, Katy!" I call.

"Who is it?" She asks suspiciously.

"A friend!" I respond.
"Okay, be safe. And don't stay out too long" she calls back, distractedly.

After grabbing my camera, which I never leave the house without, I slip my feet into a comfortable pair of pumps that are at the door, and most definitely not mine. I barely ever wore flats even if the bottom was red as these were. I wondered briefly if Katy would mind then decided I didn't care.

"Let's go!" I exclaim, grabbing his hand and rushing him out of the house.

"So you're going to the Hamptons this summer, right?" He asks nervously.

I nod my head in response, looking out at the sea of taxis similar to the one we were in.

"Well, I was wondering..."

I look at him curiously as he trails off.

"If you'd like to come with me. I mean, me and my cousins. They're twins. Not that it's important, it's just that they're coming and I'd understand if you said no, I mean, I wouldn't want it to be awkward but if you didn't want to come, I'd completely understand. So if-"

"I'd love to." I smile at him with a wink. "It's tradition in any case." I chew my lip distractedly, I'd grown to hate sitting still.

A smile breaks out on his face.

"Say, son" the taxi driver calls "You look really familiar. What's your name?"

"Oh, my name? It's-"

The end :D
