All I could think about during all my classes until lunch, was lunch. More specifically, the conversation I would have with Finn about the musical. From the second Heathers was confirmed as this years musical, I dreaded this talk. Finn knows the musical, he knows the songs and the plot and the characters, and the character I wanted to be. But I don't think he managed to put together what receiving that role would require.
"You have to fuck someone?" Finn yelps so loud the whole cafeteria can probably hear it. Not in a mad way, Finn barely gets mad enough for it to show in his tone, but in an extremely confused way.
"Hell no, baby. I mean our characters do, but I'm sure the most we will do is make out." I explain to him. He's watched the show with me, I pirated version on Youtube, but he has seen it and he knows what goes on.
"That's fucked up, I didn't know people made out in this show." Ok, maybe he wasn't paying attention when we watched it. But Finn is a mature guy, he'll understand. "I don't think I like that."
"Finn, it's acting." I put my hand on his shoulder, my sign telling him I'm being serious.
"Who do you have to do it with?" He says, pushing his fork into his cafeteria-food-salad.
Now here's what I was scared of. "Jaeden Lieberher." I say.
"Who?"
"Her neighbor." Lilia cuts in. I forgot that people are sitting at the table around us, listening to Finn not trust me.
"He is a nerd right?" Finn turns to me.
"I guess..." I sign, not even sure what Finn wants to hear.
"Ok. Use tongue, I'm sure it will make his life." Finn laughs, turning back to the salad.
"Thanks for understanding, baby." I lean in and kiss his cheek.
"No prob, babe." He uses the arm he isn't holding his fork with to squeeze my thigh. Damn, I love him.
The first day of rehearsal is a full read through, which is by far the easiest and most chill day of rehearsal. The whole cast sits in a circle on the floor, and we just read through. The director/english teacher, Mrs. Lawrence, begins the rehearsal with a long speech about how excited she is, then we go. We don't sing the songs since technically we haven't learned them yet, but everything goes by pretty well. I'd say everyone is good for their role. Heather Chandler is Emily Skinner, Heather Duke is Kenzie Ziegler (Maddie's baby sis), Heather McNamara is Iris Apatow, Martha Dunnstock is Rowan Blanchard, Kurt is Wyatt Oleff, Ram is Jack Grazer, and of course JD and Veronica are Jaeden and me.
"Everyone was amazing, see you all tomorrow when we start the first number." Mrs. Lawrence says at the end of rehearsal. I go to my backpack, to put my script away, when I'm greeted by one of my fellow cast-mates standing beside me.
"Oh, hey Jaeden." I say looking up.
"I just wanted to say good job today." He smiles.
"Thanks, you too." I smile back, slinging my bag over my shoulder.
"I also wanted to make sure you're fine with what the script says about our scene, because Mrs. Lawrence says we can make adjustments if we want." Jaeden adds.
"No, it's fine. The show is already dirty enough, might as well keep everything since the school is letting us." I say, hoping to get the chance to walk away. I'm supposed to be going to Finn's to study before dinner.
"Ok, I just wanted to make sure you were comfortable." He is still smiling.
"Yeah I am, thanks for asking though." Once the words escape my mouth I start walking past him, knowing Finn will probably be mad if I'm really late.
"See you tomorrow!" He yells as I leave the door. What a wild ride this will be.
