Saturday morning I wake up to a missed call from Finn from 2am, meaning it was a drunk call. But I still text as if I think he needed to talk to me, hoping he will have forgotten last night and think he needed to talk to me.
"Hello?" Finn's groggy voice says after a few rings. It's 11am, which means it's not an unreasonable time to call. Maybe it's unreasonable for someone who partied intensely the night before, but Finn is normally ok the next morning.
"Hey. How are you?" I ask, trying to picture where Finn is right now. From the lack of background noise I assume he is no longer at Noah's and is at his own home.
"I'm good, you?" He small talks.
"Good. What are you doing today?" I try to get him to ask me to hang out.
"Nothing. Wanna come over later?" Perfect, it worked.
"Yeah. At 1?" Our usual time.
"Yeah. Bring coffee, my house is lacking." He says.
"K. See you then." I don't say anything else, hoping he will say something first.
"Later, babe." He says then hangs up. I guess it was stupid for me to expect a romantic goodbye with the situation, but at least I'm seeing him soon.
I ask my mom to use her car this afternoon, and she says yes being that she won't be going out on a Saturday night unless it's with dad in which case they'll use his car. So by 12:30 I'm walking to the car in my tightest black leggings and a dark green tank top. My hair looks like shit because it's still wet from my shower, but I know Finn's never cared much about how my hair looks. By 12:45 I'm at our favorite coffee place, Rose's, ordering two iced coffees to go, one with milk, one with no ice. And by 12:57 I'm parking in Finn's driveway. Finn's car is the only one if the driveway, meaning he is home alone per usual. He only invites me over when he is home alone.
"Thanks, babe." Finn says when I walk into his bedroom with the two coffees. I sit down on the bed next to him and hand him the no ice cup. He kisses my cheek then begins to chug his coffee. I just watch his profile as he does it, falling more in love as I look at him.
"So what's the plan for tonight?" I ask, wondering if he has any special plans or anything. He rarely ever does, but maybe after the recent lack of seeing each other he came up with a big reunion.
He finishes the coffee off before answering, "Just chilling." He puts his empty cup on his nightstand then grabs his guitar. He starts playing a Mac Demarco song, one of my favorites, My Kind of Woman. He doesn't sing it, probably because he thinks his voice sucks when he is tired. So there I am, just watching him. I think I'm happiest when I'm just watching him. And he is happiest when I'm just near him. We haven't said it, but I know it's love. The kind of love when we don't need to be talking all the time, we just need to know we're there.
"Wanna watch a movie?" I ask after Finn plays a few songs and I finish my coffee. He nods so I grab the remote and start looking through Netflix. "Sixteen Candles?" I ask when I see my all-time favorite movie pop up.
"Nah, it gets old after a while." He says changing his seating position. "Put on something neither of us care about, I've missed you." He pulls me closer and wraps his arm around my waist. He uses his other hand to turn my face and lightly kisses my lips the way I love. As I put on the first show I know we've both seen I could find, he lightly kisses down my neck. And that's that.
Finn missed me.
