I found myself with two people who claim to be my parents about a year ago. I was in the hospital with a head injury, causing me to lose my memories until before the hospital. I wasn’t sure how I got there, or who brought me, I just wanted to get out. I remember hating hospitals. My “Parents” took me home and it took me a while to get accustomed to this life style, but I got into it. We were happy together, until my mom died from a car accident. We were taking it pretty well until my dad got drunk one night and threw stuff at me, calling me names, beating into my head that it was my fault she did considering she was going to get my birthday gift. It was like dejavu for some reason. I felt like I experienced such an environment before I lost my memories. I began to tremble as my hand instinctively traced the cut on my brow. As of now, I don’t believe this was from the accident I was in. I attempted to calm my father down, but he would pay me no heed and threw broken glass bottles at me, slicing my arm with a deep cut right below my gunshot wound. They told me I was targeted by criminals who shot me in the arm and in the shoulder, leaving me when they had my money. I scream in shock and run to my room, grabbing my money and phone, then sprint out the door as my drunken dad shouts in protest. I didn’t care, I ran down the street without looking back.

I ended up telling the cops about my father and he was taken to jail, leaving me in an adoptive home. A few weeks later I ran off and was attacked by thieves, but the leader didn’t hurt me, he adopted me! I was shaken at first, but then I saw his daughter and that was that. I’m now sixteen years of age and happy as a clam. My sister Sakura and I are getting ready for school as usual, than head to karate class after. We’re the best in the class, the only ones who can out match the teacher. But if Sakura and I fought against each other, it would be a fifty, fifty chance for both of us. “Hurry up Olive, or we’ll be late!” I just completed my braid I decided to go with today when I was pulled out the door by Sakura. “Hey, stop being so bossy!” I command, but Sakura doesn’t heed my words. Sakura and I are sisters, well, kind of. We were both adopted by the Sakuras when we were little. We have pretty much everything in common except one thing, I can’t remember anything earlier than when I was 12 years old. My adopted family took me to the doctor, but they didn’t know what it was that was blocking my memory. I didn’t want to tell them I was in an accident, so I let them take me. They reassured me that it would come back over time if I just did things I used to do, but what did I used to do? I finally lost hope of regaining my memories two years ago, but it’s fine, I’ve learned to live with it. School was just a normal day with Sakura and I getting asked out after school. It sucks to turn them down, but it would be worse if I agreed and didn’t feel the same way. “Hey Sakura, Happy early birthday!” I jump on her back as we leave school grounds to stop at the bus stop. “And happy birthday to you.” She gave me a grin. I just turned 16 today, leaving me with another year with no memory of who I was or what I did. I’m not even sure today is my real birthday, it’s the day I was taken in by the family I have now. The thought demined my mood. Sakura noticed and glanced at me. “Olive, what’s up?” I didn’t say anything, I didn’t have to. My face said it all. I was given a pat on the back and a playful punch in the arm. “Cheer up; you can always make new memories.” “I know Sakura, but I hate this. You don’t know how it feels to almost remember something and have it be washed away again. It’s frustrating and infuriating!” Sakura’s gaze landed behind me, out the bus window and didn’t respond to my complaint. I turned to find a very familiar blue flame surrounding several screaming people.
