Raising Katie

Chapter 35

Katie's POV

"Hi this message is for Katie Lynch. I'm calling from the fertility clinic about your lab results. Unfortunately, the test came back negative." The doctor said. 

"No!!" I cried into Ross' chest while the message continued playing. Ross just wrapped me in his arms. 

"No!!! I just want a baby." I cried harder. My heart hurt from the pain of the news. 

"I know, I know." Ross said.

"Why can't I just have a baby? I just want to have another baby." I said. I cried for a few hours until I fell asleep.

Ross POV

 I felt sad that this second round of  fertility treatment didn't work in our favor. I felt so bad for Katie because I know that more than anything she wants to have another  child.  I hugged Katie all night and listened to her cries every now and than.

The next morning

I woke up early and let Katie and Liam sleep in. I quickly got changed and I went on a run to Rydel and Ratliff's house. I knew that I could trust Rydel to talk to, even my brothers, but I needed to talk to my sister. 

I knocked on the door and waited for someone to open it.

"Hey Ross, good morning." Rydel said. 

"I need to talk to you." I said.  Rydel looked concerned for me. 

"What's wrong?" She asked as we sat at her table.

"I don't know what to do, Del." I said. 

"Do about what?" She asked.

"Katie, me, our family. We got a call last night from the doctor and she said that she wasn't pregnant. The treatment didn't work. I don't know what to do. Katie just wants to have a child and I can't give her that. She feels like it's all her fault and she is being harsh on herself. She cried all night long and I didn't know what to do. Delly, what do I do? How can I help her?" I said as a tear fell down my face. Rydel gave me a hug and I broke down even more.

"Let her grieve. Tell her it's going to be okay. Be there for her.  Ross, it's going to be difficult but don't give up. You guys will have another child. I just know it." She said. 

"Okay. It's just hard seeing her go through all this pain and I know it's hard when she sees all of the babies." I said.  Riker married his longtime girlfriend Savannah, Vanni for short , about two years after our tour. They just had their first son, Henry, five months ago. It was such a happy time for Riker and Vanni but a sad time for Katie and I. Riker and Vanni were respectful  towards us knowing our situation and so we haven't really spent much time with them. Rydel and Ratliff also got married and also had a son, Landon. Landon is fourteen months old. 

"Well, just make her feel special and even more loved. Let me and Vanni take her out tomorrow to get her mind off of everything." She said.

"Okay. Maybe, we just need a vacation." I said. "Thanks for listening Rydel. I should start heading back now." 

"Okay, well, I'm sorry that you got that news." She said and gave me another hug before I walked out the door. 

I ran back to my home and found both Katie and Liam in the kitchen eating breakfast. I joined them.

"Daddy, where did you go?" Liam asked.

"I just went for a run." I said messing up his hair. 

"Oh." He said. I smiled. Liam can always put a smile on my face no matter the challenges I might be facing.
