I made my way to the hotels roof and stared out to the city. I have no idea why I told Pablo I have everything figured out. I guess I just wanted to ease his nerves. Meanwhile mine are at war.
I have no idea where to go from here. I'm stuck and it kills me. No matter how bad things got, I always figured a way out. I don't know if I can this time.
"So you're Dalton, huh?" I turned around and was met by a guy standing on the opposite end of the roof. He had shaggy, white hair and wore a black shirt that draped low around the neck with grey pants and black boots.
"Who are you?" I asked him. He began walking forward with his hands up "Oh I'm no enemy. I'm.... well I'm a part of that group that's... keeping an eye on you, so to speak." He said.
I remained sitting with one knee bent up toward my chin and my armed wrapped around it. "Oh?" I responded.
He smiled. "Yes, and it seems our intel is good. I knew you had a thing for rooftops." He said back to me.
I turned my head away from him and back to the city. "So? You come here to drag me back with you?" I asked. He began shaking his head and arms "Oh no, No." He said chuckling. He stop shaking. "You see, I'm just like you. I want all this to end." He said. I turned to face him.
"Yeah.." he started rubbing his chin. "However I'm not strong enough." He looked up and smiled while holding his index finger up. "But I think you might be. You have a lot of potential. I want to see you use that potential to end all this." He said.
"And what is this plan?" I asked. "Well.." he started. "There's a hideout located in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. I don't know the location but I do know that the leader of it works closely with my boss. They're both at the top of this. If you can get to him or even just inside that hideout, I'm sure you can gain some vital information."  He said.
I stood up. "And why should I trust you?" I asked. He took a deep sigh and then suddenly black marks appeared over his face. I was shocked.  "I'm just like you in more than one way. I don't like this life just as much as you don't. I need someone to free me. Free all of us. There's more than just you and me in this world." He said.
We stood in silence for a few seconds before he spoke again. "Look, I don't want to pressure you. If you decide to do it, I left a backpack for you on the ground next to the ladder. If you take it, inside is everything you'll need to find him including a map. Now I don't know where the hideout is in the rainforest but I did mark a good starting spot in the Panatal swamp. I hope to hear of your success soon." And with that he walked to the edge of the building and dropped off.
This whole thing could be fake... or it could be exactly what I need. Regardless, if I don't take this, I have nothing else to go on. I started chuckling. It's funny how fate works. You get exactly what you want just the complete opposite of how you want it.
You know... when he jumped off... I never heard him hit the ground.
I'm sorry, Pablo... I have to go away for a bit.
