Recap: "Goodnight Violet." Embry said with a wide smile. "Goodnight Embry." I whispered as he smiled before getting in his car ending this perfect night with a kiss. Although it wouldn't be perfect for long.
The kiss Embry gave me was on my mind when I went inside and flicked on the lights. The moment I did Onyx came rushing through. He went to sniffing me before pacing after me as we went to the kitchen. "Give me a moment boy." I told him rubbing his head and Onyx extended his head out.
Grabbing his metal dish I filled it with dog food, and then put some wet food in it. Stirring up the wet food I put it on the ground. Onyx was quick over eating all the food as I went into the living room and turned on the lights and began putting on the heaters. Onyx wasn't really bothered by how cold it was. His thick coat protected him but I needed some heat as I didn't have a thick coat. Once the heaters were on I went to my bedroom and took off my clothes from tonight ready to get in some pajamas.
I picked a nice pair of cozy fuzzy pants with little dogs on them and then a nice warm shirt. And then a pair of fuzzy socks before going out. Onyx was still eating his food when I got on the couch deciding to lay down and read a book. The book I was reading was called Thor, a book about a German Shepherd protecting his family from their werewolf uncle. Meaning he had to kill amongst his pack. And it was getting good so far. Upon finishing one chapter Onyx climbed up on the couch with me.
He turned a few times before nestling himself at my feet his head rested against my ankle. His amber eyes shut as he began to drift off to sleep as I sat there reading my book. Onyx had become a constant companion here. Wherever I went, he went. I'd be signing those adoption papers without a doubt as I couldn't leave Onyx. There was no way I could. We had bonded very well to each other so far. Onyx was a companion who couldn't be replaced and he was still young so he had a nice life ahead of him for sure.
A life that would be spent with me and him getting spoiled. All the delicious food he wanted, dry food, wet food here and there, and human food. All the toys he wanted to chew to his heart's content. I'd get him one of those huge dog beds and put it in my room if it made him happy. Although Onyx preferred sleeping at the end of the bed curled up at my feet and on occasion next to me. He was sweet to me and I liked it. A good pet. . . no Onyx was more than a pet to me.
Onyx was like family, the only family I had besides my aunt. The only family who was nice to me and didn't treat me like dirt under their shoes. I shook my head of those thoughts. No need to go off in the dark end. So I went back to my book focusing on the storyline as Onyx slept away. I flipped each smooth page soaking in the story. I could feel Onyx breathing against me in a steady rate as I wiggled my toes some making him glance up before going back to his rest he was in.
Then a howl broke out.
Onyx's head snapped up at that his ears perking up. His eyes dilated at that and my hands on the book shook. The grip loosened and with shaky hands I grabbed the bookmark and put it in the book. And set the book down with even shakier hands. My legs felt numb as I went to the kitchen and took out a knife from the drawer and came back in. Onyx's tail was curled up high and his amber eyes dilated badly. The amber wasn't as noticeable as his pupils took over the color as I came back in.
Onyx looked at me then back at the window. He walked slowly up to it his ears tilted back and his hackles on end. Slowly spreading to his fur and his tail curled high in a dominant posture. His entire body was stiff as he stalked towards the window. He was in a sort of protection mode, keeping his territory free. I stood behind him silent the knife feeling numb in my hands. My grip was numb but tight so the knife didn't clatter to the floor and leave me defenseless against whatever was out there.
