Y/n's POV.
Time flew past quicker than you expected, and all of a sudden the day had finally come. This was the day when your dreams would finally come true!
Standing in the room that you had been growing up in for the past 21 years of your life, with your packed backpack sitting on your bed. You let out a long sigh as you let your eyes move across the room. Sweep along the walls that was covered in old colourful crayon drawings, made by you as a kid. All of them was pictures of the Air Islands, all except one certain drawing. It was hanging right over your bed. The picture was of two stick people, one was taller than the other and held the little one's hand. They were both smiling.
You walked up to it and smiled. It was a drawing of you and the professor, he had basically been as a parent for you when growing up. Always encouraged you to believe in what you were passionated about, and don't care about what anyone else thought of you. He had been your hero, and the thought of leaving him made your heart ache. The old professor had began getting really old these days, and you couldn't ignore the fact that he had seemed a bit more tired than usual. Which worried you.
"Isn't it funny how time flies? It feels like it was yesterday you were sitting on your bed, drawing that exact picture." an old raspy voice behind you said
You turned around with a melancholy smile on your lips, and said to the old man that stood behind you.
"Will you really be okay if I go father?" you asked him hesitantly, and looked at him with worried eyes.
The old man gave you a warm smile, and ruffled your hair just like he always did when you were a little kid. His old wrinkled face and the snow white long beard that made him look like Santa Clause, his kind brown eyes. You realised in that moment how much you would come to miss them, how much you would miss him.
"My dear child, of course I will. Today is your big day, now wipe that sad face away and let me see that pretty smile of yours." he said
You couldn't help but chuckle at his words, but in the same time you felt how tears were burning behind your eyelids. Threatening to fall at any moment. And in the next second you lost it, and threw your arms around him and cried into the old man's shoulder as he calmly stroke your head as he was saying comforting words to you, in a attempt to calm you down.
"There there, don't cry dear. I will be waiting for you when you come back, now go out and live your dream!"
Letting go from his embrace, you looked at him with shiny eyes and snuffled.
If it was something that you hated, then it was to say goodbye. To leave something behind you that always had been a part of your life, it was tough. But still you knew that you had to. Sometimes you will have to step out of your comfort zone, and take a step into the unknown. To face yourself and everything that waits along the horizon.
---
After finally saying goodbye, you had stepped outside with your backpack on your back. Excited but in the same time nervous for what was waiting for you, what destiny had the universe in mind for you?
The sky was just as grey as it always was, and matched perfectly along with the rest of the city with its black and white colors. Flying vehicles of different kinds, swarmed above your head like birds in the sky. And you began making your way to the closest local transport stop, that would take you to the airport.
The airport was probably one of the biggest buildings that you had ever been to. This was also the first time that you stepped into an airport, it might sounded silly but it was true. In fact you had never traveled with these kinds of planes before, they had always been seen like a luxury for you. In short, something that you could only dream of ever traveling with since the tickets weren't exactly cheap.
