Before he knew it, Sky had been living in his new world for almost a year while having done nothing but become a legal adult in the eyes of the law and breaking into people's houses underneath his cop cousin's nose. It was a sunny day in late July that Arika sat her cousin down and decided to have a heart to heart.
"Listen up you little shit I'm sick of you always mooching off of my paycheck and doing nothing but dressing up in your weird ass costumes and annoying the every loving shit out of everyone at the precinct. So you got two options here," she held up two fingers, shoving them into Sky's face for added dramatic effect as she signed and spoke. "You can either get off your ass and start making some money to pay for all that food you eat, or you can go to the college who accepted the application I sent in for you four months ago and fucking do something with your life." Arika pulled out an acceptance letter to the local college addressed to his new name, Sky Tannae, and slammed it down on the table.
'How could I possibly have been accepted to a college here? I've never been to school in my entire life, let alone a school where there would be records for them to peruse' She smirked mischeviously at him.
"You're not the only one who is good at sneaking around for information L'aire. I have connections around here. I managed to convince some people on the admissions board that you have been homeschooled your entire life, which is true, and you have been accepted under the condition that you pass all of their entry exams. Most freshman have to take them anyways to be used as placement for your entry level courses, so you won't be out of place." It was true that he could easily pass any exam with his ability to memorize anything he's read, but there had to be a catch. Arika was never just nice for no reason, and this had been extremely thoughtful and carefully planned out.
"What's the real reason you want me to go here, Aan'ka?" She sighed, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms dramatically.
"Your brothers have started their higher education back home and your parents don't want you to fall behind. They wanted to make sure that I was taking good care of you here." He narrowed his eyes dramatically at her.
"That's why my parents want me to attend University here, but why do you want me to go here? Don't treat me like your stupid cop friends Aan'ka we both know you're a selfish bitch." She rolled her eyes, but smiled in his direction anyways.
"All right, all right, all right you caught me. I do have an ulterior motive for choosing this particular school, but if I'm gonna tell you that means getting involved in what's going on. You good with taking a potentially dangerous risk?" He nodded his head.
'I've been taking potentially dangerous risks on my own for the last year, at least we'll be in this together.' Her smile widened, and her expression became uncharacteristically soft.
"We're family Sky you know we're always gonna be in this together." Sky reached out for his cousin's hand, kissing her fingers lightly and returning her warm smile. She quickly retracted her hand, shaking away his kiss and clapping it in front of her.
"Enough of this sappy crap, let's get down to business! I'm gonna assume that you know about the supernaturals on this world?" He nodded his head in the affirmative. "Good, then I'll cut right to the chase and tell you that there is a bad vamp that's been killing people for years, like a lot of people. And he's not just draining their bodies, he's completely tearing their throats out and cutting out their hearts like some kind of deranged beast. The Super detectives on the force are trying to keep in pretty hush hush as to not alert the humans that something's going on past the normal serial killer aspect."
