"So you're telling me that the serial killer everyone has been looking for for months has kidnapped Sky and is not only torturing him in the basement of his house, but also has a partner who just to happens to be on the police officer?" Arika exclaimed exasperatedly. River had called her, his brother, and his brother's mate over to discuss the situation. Dominic was at school and couldn't come home until late afternoon.

"It's no wonder no one could find him," Fury rolled his eyes and leaned slightly towards his fuming mate. "There's a rat on the inside."

"Do we know which cop is helping him?" Dom asked. He really wanted to grill the kid on the condition of his love, but he knew that knowing wouldn't only make him angrier and more distracted.

"He said he knows the man's name, but he's afraid to tell us. He says that if the cop knows we're onto him they might move Sky to a different location and then we won't know where he is." River said. Elijah sat in corner, holding a pillow tightly to his body and observing the situation. Arika turned her attention to him and he tensed.

"First thing's first, how did your dad get into the house without Sky knowing in the first place?"

"My dad can teleport. It's how he dumps the bodies without anyone seeing him."

"Teleport?"

"Yeah, we're, um, witches. My dad's really good at physical manipulations like teleportation and telekinesis."

"Can you do that too?" River asked and he shook his head.

"No. My mom was a healer and I kinda took after her. It's part of why he doesn't like me I guess. Cause I'm like her."

"Where is your mom?" Elijah picked at the stitching on the pillow.

"We lived together just the two of us when I was a baby, but my dad found her and he, um, killed her and then, uh, took me with him." River placed a hand on the boy's tense shoulder.

"I'm so sorry for your loss." Elijah shrugged. She died when he was so young he didn't even remember her. The only reason he knew what happened to her is because his father often ranted about her when he was angry.

"Moving along, we need to know how to get Sky out of the house and take care of the bastard that took him. Normally I'd say we should contact the detectives for the case, but I don't know if they can be trusted." Arika stated. Elijah responded quietly.

"My dad's friend isn't a detective, but I don't know if he's working with anyone else in the department.

"Let's assume no one in the department is on our side except Arika and my mate." Fury spoke up. "That keeps it in the family, and that means we don't necessarily have to abide by the law."

"We can bend the law a little, but we you're allowed to kill this guy Fury." River scolded.

"Why not? Who knows what this dude had been doing to him! Dom says that it's the worst pain he's ever felt, and that's only a fraction of what Sky is actually feeling when this guy is fucking him up."

"Hey, I want this guy to pay just as much as you do, but this isn't our home. If you set someone on fire people are going to ask questions, and mom isn't here to bail you out this time."

"Plus, even if he's partnered with a cop the court system isn't likely to go easy on him. He might even get the death penalty." Arika looked at Fury to make her point, and he crossed his arms to sit back and sulk.

"He's not human," Cain Jenkins spoke up finally. "He'll have to be treated with special care so he can't use his powers, and his sentence will likely result in taking them away."

"Wait," River sat up. "If he's going through the human court system, how can they add something like that to his sentence?" Cain looked to Arika to explain.

"The supernatural court and human court run adjacent to each other. Higher ups in the legal system know about the existence of other creatures, so when they see that a defendant isn't human they pass it off to a judge that also isn't human. Supernatural criminals are segregated into their own facilities, run entirely by other supernaturals. Everything runs in the same way it would for humans, so they don't suspect anything is different about the court cases or sentencing."

"I thought that your guys' existence was pretty much a secret, but it sounds like a lot of people know."

"It's a secret for the most part from civilians, but everyone who holds higher ranking army, government and judicial positions are privy to the information regarding how they fit into society. Their families usually know too, but there are severe punishments for anyone who spills the beans so no one dares to expose the dirty laundry."

"Enough about the fucking court system, how are we gonna get this guy fucked up without going to the cops?" Fury's hands were starting to heat up the longer this conversation went on, and his mate gently kissed his mark to try and calm him.

"First, we need to take care of the cop friend, and then we can hit the big guy without tipping him off." River nodded.

"The two cops can't be directly involved so you both can have plausibly deniability, so it's going to be up to me, Fury, and Dom to pull this off."

"Dom probably just fucking cry if he saw Sky all messed up, so I say we let him take care of the cop and you and I go get our brother."

"Dom's a total wimp, how the hell do you expect him to overpower a police officer?" Arika asked. Elijah's head lifted slightly, and he answered in a quiet voice.

"He's human," Everyone's faces brightened.

"Perfect!" Arika clapped her hands together. "Even a wussy vamp is still physically stronger than a human. All he's gotta do is catch him off guard and drag his ass somewhere the detectives can find him later."

"Fury can break into Elijah's house when his dad is at work, maybe cause some kind of ruckus so the neighbors call emergency services. Once they find Sky, Elijah can conveniently come home from school and tell them where his dad works. He had no idea that Sky was down there, of course, so he can't get in trouble. I'll do something to keep his dad in the work building until the cops come, and Jenkins can conveniently have handcuffs on him that will stop him from teleporting away."

"Do you really think that would work? Cain asked, skeptical of such an elaborate plan. The brothers merely smirked at each other, and Fury patted his mate's cheek.

"Don't worry baby, River and I have pulled off much more elaborate schemes back home. We'll be just fine."

"What about the kid? What are we gonna do with him?" Arika asked.

"Send him home obviously. His dad'll notice if he's gone and know something's up."

The idea didn't sit well with Arika or River. Some of his bruises could be seen when he moved his arms, and everyone had noticed the way he was afraid of people touching him. It wasn't safe for him to be in that house, but Fury had a point. If they wanted the plan to work, they had to make sure that his dad and the cop partner had no reason to up and run. Elijah had already assumed he was going home after this, so he wasn't too upset at the idea. These people didn't know him, and they had to reason to care about him or his wellbeing. No one had a reason to care about him, so no one did. He had friends, sure, but they only cared about the version of him he was allowed to show them. None of them knew what life was like when he went home, and they could never know. If they did they wouldn't be able to stand being around him. He hated himself, and if anyone knew the real him they would hate him too. It was probably better that he went home. His dad would hit him as soon as he was done skinning Sky alive, and maybe he would actually kill him this time. He could only hope.
