I don't belong here.
Those are the words that reverberated so loudly inside his head. It didn't matter that he was surrounded by his brothers, identical in every way save their eyes and specialties. It didn't matter that they constantly tried to include him in their conversations, picking topics that he was familiar with as to not ostracize him from the group. It didn't matter that everyone he knew at this family gathering seemed genuinely interested in learning about what he had been up to all these years he had been gone, and they went out of their way to seek him out in an attempt to pull him back into the family he was forced to leave behind all those years ago. It didn't matter.
It didn't matter because Dom didn't belong their either. The party had been raging on for nearly three hours already. Sky's mother insisted that the wedding take place in their castle, so the entire Silver clan was forced to walk single file through the only existing portal to his home world. Once they were there, pandemonium ensued. The women pulled Sky in one direction while Dominic was pulled in the other by the men. Vampires and his kind alike were fussing over them, making sure that their hair was pristine, their suits weren't wrinkled, and Sky's mother even forced him to wear a bit of eye liner to make his eyes pop in all of their photos. The piece de resistance was the golden crown that sat atop Sky's head and would stay there through the entirety of the ceremony. Whether or not Sky actually felt like a prince, the fact was that this was indeed a royal wedding and he needed to look the part.
For the sake of convenience, Sky and Dominic had decided to set their wedding date as their already existing anniversary in the middle of February. This gave them just under a year to prepare, which was more than enough time as far as Sky was concerned. When he told his mother of their plan, though, she nearly fainted. Apparently it took nearly two years to plan her and his father's wedding, and they almost didn't have enough time. Sky didn't understand how it could have possibly taken that much time, but he was a relatively simple man. The only part of this wedding that was truly for him and his love were the vows and photos for keepsakes, everything else was to bring the families together and appease their parents. Sky and Dom's mothers teamed up to plan the entire shebang, and neither of them actually knew what the wedding would be like until the day arrived.
Sky had been hounded by his extended family members at the reception about his business. He'd had it for nearly five years and was extremely successful, but none of them really thought to bring it up to them until now. The last time he'd seen them they'd been too engrossed in the oddities that were Cain and Dominic, and they didn't even really know what it was that he was doing to make money. He never really related to any of them growing up, so they didn't know how to talk to him. They thought he might be more sensitive than he actually was, so they avoided a plethora of topics when he was around. The alcohol served at their wedding was infused with herbs intended to make the effects last for his kind, so the inhibitions of his family members were greatly lowered and they finally allowed themselves the freedom to ask what they've been dying to know: How could a sheltered deaf boy grow up into a self-sufficient, independent man?
The answer lied in all of the experiences he'd had since he ran away from home. He was naïve then, a child thinking of himself as an adult and acting without considering the consequences. He still did that quite a bit, but at least he was able to recognize that now. In all that time, he could honestly say that the one aspect that changed him the most in his life was meeting Dominic. Dominic didn't change him as a person, but he encouraged Sky to accept himself as he was by accepting Sky himself. Not once had he tried to deter Sky from making a certain decision, he merely told him to be careful. He took it upon himself to learn how to sign before they were even officially together so Sky didn't have to read his lips. He never once questioned how Sky could do the things he did or why he did them, he just rolled with whatever was happening without a complaint. Dominic never made him feel like he was limited by being differently abled, just that he had a different way of living his life. Sky didn't realize how good it felt to be free as himself until Dominic allowed him to be.
'It's getting kind of crazy in here, are you ready to go?' Dom asked his gorgeous husband as they hid in the corner of the ballroom. Sky smiled and kissed the love of his life on the lips.
'Yeah, let's go home.'
THE END HAS COME BUT DON'T REMOVE THIS FROM YOUR LIBRARY AS THERE WILL BE A SEQUEL. Once I have enough chapters written I will let you guys know when the sequel will be posted.
Despite the fact that this story was written because I was trying to pretend I didn't have anxiety, I actually really enjoyed this story and all of the characters in it. Sky and Dom are two of my absolute favorite characters out of any story I've written in my entire life and I'm so glad I was actually able to finish the beginning of their lives.
All chapters are unedited, but I will eventually be going through and making revisions.
Please vote and comment if you enjoyed the story and stay tuned for what's coming next!
