Chapter 33/Meet me on the river bank

Wendy pov.
It was dark,but the crystals in the cave guided my path.I knew nothing of what would lie on the other side of the valley nor what I was going to do after I got out of the stupid maze.I remember the lagoon being around here,but as for the exit,Lord have mercy.I could hear a hallow noise of drums and yelling in a distance but I payed no mind to it.These people where wolves,blood thirsty wolves and I knew I was
Gonna die someday and this wasn't my day.My mind kept on going back to Kelsi too,I could have saved her,I'm such a coward and a bad friend.I finally came to an opening in the cave.The moonlight converged into my eyes and I took a deep breath in.Somehow,I couldn't get my legs to move.

A flashback flashed in my mind of how I met Kelsi.She was just 6 years old and sat all by her self in that stinky orphanage.A few bruises here and there and on her plate was just a bitten apple.Even in her early stages she was quite a rookie.All the other kids picked on her except me.Then just as the flashback came it went away.the choice was mine,should I go or should I stay?

I didn't know how long I'd been standing in the clearing but all I could
think about was Kelsie,my one bestie,who stuck by my side all this time.Although we where apart for 4 years,she always had a place in my heart.

With a sharp pain in my heart,I moved forward trying to hold back the tears in my eyes.I ran as fast as I can scanning my surroundings for a main road.But instead all I saw were trees and more trees.After running for 10 minutes,yes I counted every single second,I came across a river.Maybe if I crossed the river it would cover my scent,I thought to myself.And I did just that.The current was stronger than it looked.Before I knew it I was being pulled into the river and no matter how hard I tried swimming away,I couldn't do it.I was heading down the river and just when things couldn't get any worse,my head hit a log and darkness took over me.

"She's unconscious but we can help her,call the healer."I heard the voice of a male.i tired to open my eyes but my eyelids would grant me access.All I could do is open them for a few seconds and close them back.I didn't really get a clear glance of the male figure carrying me bridal style to wherever he was taking me.

"Where did you fine her,"I heard another male voice but this one was deeper.
"By the riverbank,I think she fell In."
"I'll fetch Agora,take her to the infirmary and don't let her out of your sight.I have a feeling she's worth a lot to those pups."Those are the last words I heard before darkness took over me.

Tristan pov.

"Where is she!"I entered into my room.Mother and father gave me a worried look as Kelsie tried to calm me down.Mae on the other hand stared at the floor."how did this happen?"

"Tris don't be mad but I think this is my fault."Mae said.I gave her a deadly glare.She moved a step back as I approached her.

"Tristan stop,"Father said."We'll get her back,she couldn't have gone too far.I sent some scouts out and I think it's best if you go too,I know you haven't marked her yet but you have a connection with her."As much as I wanted to rip mae's spine out Father was right.My human mate needed me,what if she was in danger or worse,made it to town and told everyone about us.I can't let that happen,not again.

"Do you think it's going to be like the time of Albion?"Mother tried to comfort my worrying Father.

"Let's hope not."I could see the worry in both their eyes."

"We went as far as the as the river but couldn't get past it,the current is to strong and I don't think she crossed it."Marcus walked in with 3 other pack members.I ran my hands in my hair and tired not to think of the worst.My mate was out there but where?

"Gather a bigger search party,we leave in 5-"

"I'm coming with you."Kelsie said but Marcus stoped her.

"I don't want anything happening to you."

"She's my best friend Marc I just can't seat here and do nothing-"

"This is not hide and seek Kelsi.you're staying here and that's final."Kelsi protested no more.We made our way out of the pack house and off we went into the woods.

I could smell her but it was a faint scent.My Connection to her is not strong.I tracked her as far as the river but she wasn't there."Do you think she would have crossed?"One of the pack members asked.

"Guys I think I found something."Marc said and we walked over to him.They where prints in the mud,shoe size 5.Its hers.

"She crossed.Marc later concludes.I look at the strong current.Not even a werewolf can make it across.The moon reached its apex and I could feel myself getting stronger.I glared at Marc who knew what I was thinking."Tristan don't do it,it's a suicide mission."Marcus tried talking me out of this.

"You would do the same for your mate,please just let me do this Marc I beg you."

"Not like this,we can find another way to get across Tris just give me your hand and we can both find a way."He tried to reach for my hand but I took a step back."Don't be stupid Tris,you're the next Alpha and your pack fucking needs you mate."

"Then tell them I'll be back."I took a few more steps back then splash,the current of the river took me away.
