SCENE 21
Caspian and Jasmine are in the common area, looking for new faces to talk to.
Jasmine: So - who looks good to you?
Caspian looks around.
Caspian: I... really don't know.
Jasmine notices some kids outside the gates of the college.
Jasmine: What about them?
The students appear to be smoking.
Caspian: Jasmine, no! They're smoking!
Jasmine: Aww. I thought you would fit in well with them. You are... a troublemaker, after all.
Caspian scowls.
Caspian: That's not funny, Jasmine.
They then both see Kwabena walk into the common room with two unfamiliar students.
They approach Caspian and Jasmine.
Kwabena: Hey, guys!
Jasmine: Hey... who are your new friends?
Kwabena: Oh, this is Kyron and Coral. I met them in History.
Coral: Hi.
Jasmine: Hey... how comes I've never met you guys?
Caspian: Because you're too busy sleeping at the back of the class?
Kyron laughs.
Kyron: That's not very nice.
Caspian: Well, she's not very nice either.
Kyron: I doubt that.
Caspian: You try hanging out with her. Give it about 2 hours before you end up wishing you were dead.
Jasmine pushes him to the side.
Jasmine: Don't mind my friend, Caspian. He was smoking outside earlier with those troublemaking kids - the fumes must still be getting to his head. Anyway, I'm Jasmine, and... yeah, that's my name!
Coral: We know who you both are. Kwabena already told us about you both.
Caspian: He didn't say anything... too bad, did he?
Kwabena: No, I didn't! I like you guys, remember?
Caspian: OK. I believe you.
Jasmine: So what subjects are you guys doing?
Coral: I'm doing History, RE and Psychology.
Jasmine: And you, Kyron?
Kyron: I'm actually not staying here. I'm gonna do a football scholarship in a few weeks. But otherwise... I'd be doing English Literature... History and Sociology.
Kwabena: A football scholarship? Oh, that's cool!
Kyron: You sure? It's not... too risky?
Caspian: Everything is risky. Even A Levels. You could have picked the wrong ones without knowing.
Jasmine: But it's about knowing what you wanna do, innit?
Kyron: Yeah.
Kwabena: Plus, it's a scholarship! It's super obvious that you should take it. It's like your life is being handed to you!
Kyron: Nah, it's not that deep. It's just a few years... and then that's it.
Coral: So what are you gonna do after that?
Kyron: Join a football team?
Coral: Nice...
Jasmine is looking towards the window. The smoking kids are increasingly causing more anti-social behaviour; blowing smoke into the faces of unsuspecting strangers passing by.
A car pulls up and another student comes out. He leaves the car door open and starts blaring music. He gives some more cigarettes to the others.
The music can be heard from the college.
Coral: What's wrong with these kids?
Kyron: Their music's so dead!
Kwabena: Ugh, they're probably from the Applied Sciences centre next door.
Jasmine: 'Applied Sciences'?
Kwabena: You know, the BTEC students?
Jasmine: Oh.
Caspian: They need to turn it down! I don't mind the smoking, but this music is an offence to my ears!
Kyron: Come, can we go tell them to shut up?
Caspian: Let's go!
They both lead the way, but Coral stops them.
Coral: Wait! We don't know what these lot are like!
Caspian: I don't care! I'll fight them off if I have to!
They both run off.
Kwabena: Nah, I gotta see this - I'm gone too!
Kwabena follows them.
Jasmine: No, guys, don't- Caspian, don't cause trouble!
They ignore her.
Boys can be so wet sometimes.
Coral: Tell me about it.
