Peridot was woken up to the sound of her alarm playing an unfamiliar piece of classical music.
Ugh. Why does mom always want me to wake up to this crap. I told her I like rock. She though, annoyed at her mom. She would have to talk to her later.Suddenly Peridot heard a knock on her door. "Come in," She said, a hint of sleepiness still in her voice. Her mom stepped into the room, closing it behind her not so gently. She looked kinda worried, maybe she was trying to sabotage their enemy neighbors, the Lazulis.
The Greens (Peridot's family) and the Lazulis have been at each other's throats for decades. Something about some dinner party that went wrong. No one can even really remember what happened. Peridot just wanted to end this stupid rivalry. She was sick of it always being the topic at dinner. Or the topic of just about every conversation Peridot has ever had with her family. They're obsessed! She just wanted a normal life.
Peridot had never had any friends because everyone at school thought she was a freak. The only other freak like her at school was Lapis, Mr. and Mrs. Lazuli's daughter. Lapis though was almost the opposite of Peridot. She loved to party and loved the ocean and water and loved the color blue. Peridot on the other hand was shy and quiet and very nerdy. She loved the color green, not just because it was her last name.
Peridot's mom walked over to her bed, sitting at the foot of it. She took a deep breath and began to tell Peridot the news. "Peridot, dear, the Lazulis wanted to have dinner with us tomorrow. Something about wanting to be friends again or something, but that'll never happen. Thankfully I declined their offer so we don-," Peridot cut her mom off. "Wait wait wait, let me get this strait. The Lazulis, our mortal enemy, invited us to dinner to patch things up, and you said NO?! Mom, you're crazy. All I want is a normal life, to not be the freak of the school with stupid, crazy parents. But NO, you have to go and keep you're DAMN grudge. Aren't you sick of being enemies?! Don't you want to get along with them?! You'll never change!!" Peridot was on the verge of tears. All she wanted to have one friend and get along with her neighbors. But that wasn't gonna happen, was it?
Peridots mom was shocked. Her daughter was usually so shy that she barely could get a sentence out of her before she disappeared into tumblr for the rest of the day. She opened her mouth to say something but Peridot cut her off again. "Save it," She said in a surprisingly stern voice, and stormed out of her room as the flood gates opened up and tears poorer out of her eyes. She ran down the stairs and out the front door, slamming it behind her as the heard her mom call for her, not even caring.
Peridot's vision was so blurry that she didn't notice that she crossed over into the Lazuli's back garden until she bumped into Lapis, falling on top of her, Lapis' face inches from her own.
