I woke up in a bed. It felt more like a super soft, super comfy cloud of something that smelled really nice...like frozen lemonade...or citrus...a smoothie maybe? Ah, what the hell! I've completely lost it. I hit my head way too hard.
Then I remembered I hadn't hit my head. Somebody else had. I shot up, glancing nervously around the room. It was a black and red color scheme with gold furniture. There weren't many things in the room, but what was there was mostly in ornate boxes or on clean wooden shelves.
I slowly got out of the bed and padded to the door. I opened it fast, hoping nothing would pop out and eat me. Okay, seriously, I need to chill out. Anyway I opened the door and it was a bathroom. I frowned, confused. Then I realized there was another, larger door on the other side of the room.
I thanked my lucky stars no one had seen that embarassing moment and walked to the other door. It opened to a hallway, which I quickly made my way down. I found stairs. Basically that was all there was here. Just as I was about to punch a wall or something, I saw big, shiny double doors that looked much more promising.
I opened them with closed eyes, hoping against all odds that it wasn't another closet or a bedroom. Why so many freaking bedrooms anyway?
I heard a soft chuckle when I opened the door and opened my eyes. I breathed a gasp; the room was beautiful! Marble columns lined the large, white room. I was almost afraid to walk across the floor because it was so squeaky clean. So me being me, I made sure I squeaked the whole way to the three regal men on thrones.
"Reagan," A blond one said tightly, "It's so good to meet you face-to-face."
"So you're my kidnappers," I said indignantly, "Where's my brother? What do you want from us?"
The dark-haired one in the middle laughed quietly, "Do we look like kidnappers to you?"
I considered that for a moment, then said, "No, you look like self-absorbed psychopaths."
"Not very far off," The middle one said, "We're vampires."
I looked at them. Then laughed. I laughed so hard it hurt. Everytime I paused and tried to say something witty and mean, I just laughed harder. Two dark figures swept in the room, but I hardly noticed.
"So you, like, suck blood and everything?" I finally managed. The three throne men didn't so much as flinch. I laughed again, wiping a stray tear from my eye. "Oh, this is the best thing since Subway."
I don't think they understood the Subway joke. Not many people did.
"Master, I--" Two other figures walked in from the double doors I came through, but I didn't hear the rest of what the blonde was going to say.
Because the third throne guy got up and said, "Aro," and put his hand on the middle throne guy's hand. What in the world...?
Also, the brunette boy I'd barely noticed before ran at me in a blur, and before I had time to comprehend anything he had me pinned to one of the fancy marble pillars, teeth bared in a viscious, in-human growl. Did I forget to mention all their eyes were red?
Yeah, I didn't notice until they were in my face.
"Ha...haha...hi. You're really pretty." I stuttered nervously at the pale boy holding me against the wall. He just glared. What the hell? 'You're really pretty'?? That's the best I've got?! I am pathetic.
"Alec." A commanding voice said. I noticed it was the one in the middle throne, called Aro I think. The brunette in front of my let out a loud hiss, but let go of me and darted to the side of his companion. She looked like his twin. Fuller lips, and lighter hair, but she was definitely related to him. They had the same evil glare.
The one called Aro looked to the other dark-haired "vampire", and said, "Thank you for this information, Marcus." Then he looked at the brunette called Alec. "You may go. Think about this, Alec."
Alec's sister glared hard at me, then lead him away by the hand. What just happened?
Aro, Marcus, and the blonde turned to me. "My dear, you are confused." Aro said flatly.
Well no duh!
"Well, I don't know if you guys have a grudge against me...is it my brother? Did he sell you something? I knew this dealer business would come back to haunt him..." I ranted, silently scolding my brother. But I was too worried about him to be angry.
"What on Earth are you talking about?" Aro asked with a chuckle, "I told you, we are vampires. Alec was a little...confused. Now, what is it Demetri?"
The blonde who came in with the large, black-haired man before scoffed, rolling his eyes, and said, "Master, I was merely going to tell you that Alec and Jane have returned from their mission, and Alec is upset that a human slept in his room."
"Wait, so he pinned me and growled because I slept in his room?! What kind of vampires are you?" I asked, still a little reluctant to believe vampires existed.
The blonde called Demetri sighed, sweeping out of the room with the big guy. Just as he was about to leave, he looked at me and said, "Sorry I hit you so hard, sweetheart." With a smile and a wink, he closed the door behind him. I gaped after him, then glared at the door. He knocked me out!
"Where is my brother?" I asked again, "Who are you people?"
"We are called the Volturi. We are rulers and protectors of the vampire world. You could call us royalty. Your brother is with Heidi, and you will see him soon enough. Now, down to buisness." Aro said seriously. I frowned. What buisness?
"You are gifted." The blonde one said bluntly. I cocked an eyebrow.
"What he means is, we believe you could be powerful as a vampire. Even that you survived a hit from Demetri..." Aro muttered, laughing again, "Also, you are Alec's blood singer. So whether we like it or not, your fate is in his hands."
I hoped he realized that didn't make any of this less confusing.
"His what?" I asked, "And what's this about Demetri hitting me? Of course I survived."
The blonde laughed, "We are much stronger than you. That blow should've crushed your skull."
"Now, now, Caius. Don't scare her." Aro said, "My dear, we are much more powerful than humans. Heightened senses, we are also stronger, as Caius pointed out, and also a great deal faster and...talented. Becoming a vampire means taking everything from your human personality and strengthening it. Many of us aquire abilities out of the norm."
I was a little less confused, but now I was in shock. They had superpowers?
"My brother Marcus here can sense relationships in people, and I can read every memory or thought you've ever had," He demonstrated by coming forward and grasping my hand, "With a touch."
I was uneasy about this, but what the hell. I let him read everything. It was weird, knowing that he now knew me inside and out.
Aro backed up slowly, thoughtfully. "Yes, you will be very gifted. As well as your brother..." He pondered.
"So what's this about singing blood?" I asked seriously, remembering the comment about this Alec guy.
Aro chuckled. He seemed to do a lot of that. "Never mind," He said, "We shall see what happens. For now, we would be honored if you stayed with us. We would enjoy your...warm personality very much."
So they wanted me to stay after they kidnapped me and my brother, and told me I was supposed to have some crazy superpower?
Ah, what the hell.
"Until I see my brother, I'm not leaving." I told them. Aro smiled.
"Alec? Why don't you come here." He murmered in a voice like a whisper. How the hell was this Alec kid supposed to hear that?
Oh, yeah. Vampire senses.
