Alec walked into the room, without his sister this time, and I noted how beautiful he was. He had powder-pale skin, with crimson eyes rimmed in dark lashes. His nose was straight, his cheekbones high, the same as the other vampires here. But something made him different from the others; he looked younger, and perhaps like he had been good-looking in his human life, too.

Not that I even believed he was a vampire. I still thought this was a very well-played prank.

"Yes, Master?" Alec questioned, ignoring me. He was completely emotionless, still like a statue, but I saw the muscles working in his jaw.

"Alec, her fate is up to you. But we would greatly appreciate it if she lived. Perhaps you could change her?" Aro looked hopeful, but like he doubted that would happen.

"You know I can't," Alec said seriously, confirming Aro's doubt.

Aro frowned, and said matter-of-factly, "She should live."

I decided to put my two cents in.

"Please?" I pleaded, giving Alec puppy eyes. He scowled. "With a cherry on top?" I added, just for good measure.

"Edward," Alec started tensely, "Found something in Bella besides the blood. Could that work for this girl as well?"

Aro pondered this, then said, "You have to wait and see, Alec. Is that something you want?"

I didn't know who or what they were talking about. Alec gave me a weary glance, then touched Aro's hand.

I fumed, "Hel-lo!" All four of them looked at me. "Do I get any say in this?

"No." Alec stated. I glared at his perfect face. I turned to Aro.

"I want to see my brother." I told him sternly.

Aro sighed, "You're not going to let him go, are you child?"

I gaped, "How could you ask me that? Of course I won't! He's my brother, my only family left! Everybody else died, ran away, ran away and then died, or just disappeared! Do you know what I've been through with him?"

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I do." Aro chuckled, reminding me he had read my memories. Stupid, mind-reading chuckler. "Be calm. I merely meant to point out the fact that you care very deeply about him. Do not worry. He is in good hands."

Yeah. Cold, marble, vampire hands.

"I want to see him."

Aro sighed, but nodded, "Yes, yes. You will see him. Alec, have to made a decision?" Aro turned to Alec, who'd been listening in silence.

There was a pause. I added a quiet, "Please?"

"She doesn't sleep in my bed again," Alec growled, and then, like lightning, he was gone.

I looked at Aro, "What does that mean?"

Aro's smile was blinding. "He's letting you live!" Aro walked down to me, clutching my hand. After a moment, he murmered, "You must be cautious. You are exactly his taste, and he can only control it to an extent. I'm awed that he even let you live."

Great. So I'm a vampire's brownie.

"Precisely," Aro said. I realized he was still holding my hand and snatched it back.

"When do I get to see my brother?"

"Patience, child. You should eat, and change your clothing. Demetri can show you a room to stay in, and your belongings will be there."

I groaned. He was stalling. Why couldn't I see my brother?!

The one called Demetri was in the room in a flash, picking me up. I squealed when we flew through the air. Seconds later we were in front of a door.

I took to breaths as he put me down. "What...was...that?"

He grinned, "A vampire thing. Please make yourself at home, there is a refrigerator inside where there will be food at mealtimes. We are not accustomed to food," He laughed, "So I apologize for our lacking it. And I'm sorry again, sweetheart." Then he was gone.

"Don't call me that!" I yelled after him, hoping he heard it.

I stepped slowly into the bedroom. It was white! The walls, the floor, the furniture. It felt like I was in the clouds. The right wall was completely made of windows, and when I looked out I saw that I was at least three stories up. The bed was lined in black, as was the dresser and closet. There was what I assumed to be a bathroom door.

"Holy Subway," I muttered, making my way to the large bed with fluffy bedding. I took off my vans and placed them neatly by the door. My luggage was on the left side of the room, by a plasma screen TV. Next to that was a tall shelf full of books and movies. Organized by genre.

I could get used to this.

I opened the fridge and found a salad and can of sprite. I ate gratefully, not realizing until now how hungry I was. When I finished, I took a long shower in the gorgeous bathroom. Then I threw on a pair of shorts and a tank top, along with my black leather jacket and a beanie. I put socks on, but didn't bother with shoes. It was sort of a house, wasn't it?

I walked out of the room, and found myself not knowing where the hell I was anyway.

Just as I was about to yell for someone, Heidi appeared before me. She looked exactly the same, except that her eyes were a bright crimson instead of violet, and I wondered if she'd been wearing contacts.

"Where's my--"

"Russell is undergoing transformation. He is my blood singer, my soul mate, and I love him more than you could comprehend, so you will have to wait until the process is over to see him." She explained quickly. She looked nervous, but willful.

This place just doesn't stop surprising me.

"You're turning him into a vampire?" I asked sourly. She nodded.

"I want to be with him forever."

"How long's this thing gonna take?"

"Approximately three days." Heidi answered swiftly. I narrowed my eyes.

"You want me to stay in this place for three days to wait for my brother?"

She laughed musically, "If you want to live, you'll have to stay longer than that. And if you want to be at your brother's side, you will stay forever."

I wanted to scream.

"What am I supposed to do til then? Twiddle my thumbs?" I asked. I couldn't believe I was even considering staying. But it's not like I had another place to go.

"You may do whatever you please. We only ask that you do not make contact with any other humans, and you are civilized."

Like I had anyone to contact.

"Why can't I see Russell now?" I asked, internally kicking myself for whining.

"He is...unsuited for company. Please understand. If you go down those stairs," She pointed, "You will enter the throne room where Aro, Marcus, and Caius linger." She paused, playing with her dress, "Would you like to see Alec?"

Hey...that gave me an idea.

"I want to meet his sister." I decided proudly.
