Jane smiled softly at my excitement.

I hadn't noticed he was there until Alec spoke. "You have got to be kidding me."

I scoffed. I'd so had it. I turned around to face him and stuck my tongue out. Only one problem. He wasn't there.

I frowned in confusion. I didn't understand. The only one behind me was Jane, and she was looking very concerned.

"Reagan, is something the matter? Why did you do that?" Jane asked, her eyes full of sincere worry for the first time since I'd met her.

"I--but, he...where did Alec go?" Did he run off? Coward. I'm a puny human, what can I do to him?

"Alec wasn't here, Reagan. None of us have seen him since you two had your run in." Jane replied, confusion spotting her features. Aro frowned when I looked at him.

"Run in? Reagan, may I?" Aro offered me his hand. I took it and sighed. Hopefully this would explain everything.

Aro blinked. "Clearly Alec is not fond of you." Aro chuckled, then his expression grew troubled.

"I don't understand." I said firmly, "I heard him. I'm not crazy. None of you heard what he said?"

Jane shook her head, "We didn't hear or see him."

I huffed, frustrated, "He said, 'you have got to be kidding me'. I don't think he wants a party."

"Strange. I wonder..." Aro murmured, eyeing me with a half smile. He cradled my hand between both of his. "You survived a fatal blow, you're hearing Alec's voice when it isn't there..."

"This is ridiculous. What is he talking about?"

Alec's voice! Again!

"Aro! Aro, I heard him again!" I yelled breathlessly. "He's...eavesdropping." I giggled. The idea of Alec with his ear to a wall was entertaining.

Aro, of course, was reading my thoughts, seeing as he still had my hand. His eyes widened.

"Child..." Aro began, glancing at the walls with a meaningful look. Was he listening for Alec?

"Are you reading my brother's thoughts?" Jane asked suddenly. I gaped at her. Reading his...thoughts? Well, I'd assumed it was his voice, but...maybe it was his thoughts.

"I...I don't know. I've never done that before in my life. Is it because he's my bloodsinger?" I asked curiously, remembering the term. But Aro was already shaking his head.

"No, no...this is strange indeed." Aro pondered. He released my hand, and I hopped to Jane's side. "Child, can you hear his thoughts now?"

I listened. I didn't exactly know how I had done it before. It just...happened.

"Well...umm...I don't think so..." I muttered, rubbing the back of my neck nervously.

"Alec!" Aro called. Seconds later Alec strolled gracefully through the double doors, looking just as confident and handsome as this morning. Ugh.

Alec stood front and center by his sister, pursing his perfect lips. Why did such a beautiful creature have to look so angry?

"Alec, as I'm sure you've heard," Aro gave him a look, and I stifled another giggle, "Reagan seems to be hearing some of your thoughts. I've never seen anything like it in a human, and I'd like to further investigate. Come, please."
