"It's not funny..." I mumbled to the Russell of my dream.
"Really? Because I think it's hilarious."
The warm, husky voice was like music in my ears. I let my eyelids flutter open to meet his gaze. Alec was lying on his stomach, propped up on his elbows to watch me sleep. I was sprawled comfortably across the soft bedding. I didn't even want to know what my hair looked like.
"You're here." I informed him.
He smirked. "I'm here."
"Listening to me talk in my sleep?" I wondered. He answered by gently sweeping my hair behind my ear, leaning forward to catch my lips in a soft kiss.
"You're very amusing." He said quietly. I gasped as the cold skin of his cheek grazed against my own.
Oh no. What had I said? This could be very bad; Russell had listened to me murmur in my sleep once. Let's just say he found out what Conner and I were doing, and it was not pretty.
"What did I say?" I asked nervously.
He smiled. "You said..." He paused for dramatic effect, "That I'm the most incredible and sexy thing you have ever seen."
I scowled, shoving him away and rolling lithely off the bed. I picked up the pile of clothes on the bedside table and headed towards the bathroom. Alec was in front of me in a flash--not that it surprised me. I was used to it.
He ran his fingers through my hair. He seemed to like playing with my hair. "Reagan..." He stroked the pad of his thumb across my cheek. "It's nothing to be ashamed of. I'm not some immature high school boy; I'm a thousand years old. You don't think girls have liked me before?"
Of course they had. I mean, just his eyes were enough to have any girl swooning. Combined with his face and body? Who wouldn't? No, I didn't doubt girls had liked him before.
But that wasn't what I was worried about. He was, as he pointed out, a thousand years old.
I fiddled with the hem of my shirt. "Have you...liked girls before?"
It was a sincere question. The teenage girl in me said no. He was a vampire, he was supposed to find his one and only soulmate. He hadn't seen any other girl. He would never have liked, let alone loved, another.
But the woman in me told a different story. She said yes. Of course he had. He's a thousand years old and heartbreakingly beautiful. He's had ten centuries, give or take, to see the entire world and every girl in it.
His answer, though, was the last one I'd expected.
He raised a brow and smirked, pulling me closer to his cold body. "There's that jealousy," He said.
My heart skipped a beat. What? What the hell did that mean? I scoffed and wheeled around him. I shut the bathroom door behind me and locked it. I glanced down at the clothes I had. Did Alec bring them up here in my sleep?
I shook my head clear of any thoughts of Alec and stripped before stepping into the stream of hot water. It felt nice. Nice to do something that required so little work or effort. When I stepped out, I decided I wanted to stay in the bathroom as long as possible. I dried off slowly and pulled on the black and blue outfit, making sure it was perfect. Then I scrubbed my teeth clean and looked in the closet for a curler.
I never curled my hair. I never wore make-up or fancy dresses or bejeweled jeans. I never tried to make my hair do anyting besides look decent. I didn't use moisturizer or wear nail polish or think too hard about my appearance.
