I rushed to the closest exit in the small room, which happened to be the window, and hurriedly opened it, flying forwards out of it in the same second. The wind whipped past me, my hair streaming behind me. I flipped so my feet were straight and landed with a barely audible thud on the bold green grass. The sunlight momentarily blinded me, and I didn't register my glowing skin before I bolted into Alec's arms, strangling him in a hug.
The first thing I noticed was how warm and good he was. The beautiful scent that wafted off his skin engulfed me, the same as the heat of his body. Heat that I only noticed now was the same temperature as my own white skin.
"Alec," I breathed, sounding utterly whole. I felt whole and good, like the burst of excitement following a thrill ride. I cupped his face in my hands and kissed him hard, my stone lips meeting his in an endlessly deep passion.
"Miss me?" He chuckled, and I felt the soft rumble in his chest when he wrapped me in his arms, safe and sound. I breathed in his heady scent, only listening to the steady sound of his breathing, the smooth melody of his husky voice. Through the wave of emotion crashing over me, I nodded in response to his undoubtedly teasing question.
"You're still you," He informed me, surprised, and I frowned. I noticed, when I looked up at him with wide, watery eyes, that his expression mirrored mine.
"Sure," I said, shrugging nonchalantly. Taking his warm hands in mine, I backed away playfully, pulling him with me.
"Don't you feel...different?" He asked, following me with no hesitation. I liked that; that he trusted me so much.
I blinked. "Different how?"
He grinned a grin so beautifully blinding you'd think he was a god. "Thirsty?" He paused, gauging the emotions flitting across my face, I'm sure. "Strong? Powerful? Just...different?"
I pondered this, pursing my lips in thought. Did I feel different? No, I still felt like the same old Reagan. I looked much prettier, I suppose, though that was a package deal along with the blood red eyes and the graceful demeanor. A warm feeling spread like butter on warm toast in the pit of my stomach. I was as beautiful as Alec. I was stronger, faster, better for him in every way.
"Reagan?" Alec sounded cautious, an emotion I didn't know him to feel often.
"Yeah," I murmured, focusing back on him. "Yeah, I guess I do feel different. More literate."
He laughed, bringing me to him in another wonderful, albeit short, kiss. "You're cute." He told me. Suddenly he tensed, muscles coiling around me protectively. I turned, following his glare easily.
"Alec." Carlisle began, standing politely. Something was wrong...something in Carlisle's stance. His usual welcoming smile was replaced by a curt countenance. "Stay if you like, we can--"
"That won't be necessary." Alec said tightly, already backing up slightly.
With a small, almost sad smile, Carlisle disappeared. But not before I, again, with no control over it, read his ever compassionate mind.
So horrible...I feel only sympathy for him, and still he hates us so.
"Let's go home." Alec said. I looked around for a car or motorcycle, but found nothing. I looked at Alec, eyebrows pulled together, and said nothing. "Run." He whispered, almost inaudible. Then, as if we shared a deep secret, he shot me a conspiratorious smirk and whirled, running the opposite direction.
With a short gasp, I followed, not thinking. Only acting on what seemed to be a millenia-old instinct. It was incredible; I could hardly focus on avoiding the large, brown trees, what with the sensation of going ninety miles an hour. But nothing was blurry--I was sprinting with smooth, feline grace, and everything I passed was clear like crystal to my new eyes.
I laughed, feeling giddy and...different. This was what Alec meant. Powerful and utterly alive for the first time since I was born. But I was still thirsty.
I let out a tiny breath of surprise when Alec appeared beside me, smile dazzling as ever. "Follow me," He said, "I bet you're thirsty."
I complied.

"I feel high." I made sure to emphasize 'high' for the hundreth time. "Or, like, drunk or something."
"Imagine you had a dead battery in your body, and you just replaced it. Your body was lacking a sufficient amount of energy, and you replenished that need." Alec explained, flipping the water out of his hair. I wrapped my hands around my own hair and wrung out the water onto the yellow sand, glancing up at the brilliant blue moon. It was a waxing crescent--and it instantly made me think of Conner.
I shook my head. I would not think about him. It was either him or Alec. Him or Russell.
"It's strange, though." Alec contemplated something unknown. "None of the Volturi have ever bothered with animal blood. Are you sure it's enough?"
I gave him a look. "I won't kill. I just can't." I said firmly. Apparently, he was worried for my well-being, liek drinking animal blood wasn't nutritious enough or something. He compared it to McDonald's versus a fresh, home cooked meal. I saw through the facade easily. I knew he was only concerned with how Aro would feel.
I let out a long sigh, gazing longingly at the city before me. Volterra...home. Russell, Spencer!
Spencer, who, according to Alec, had been brought home during my transformation by himself. I was suspiscious, to say the least, but I trusted him. I just hoped that was a good thing.
"So, tell me about this gift? I'm curious." Alec said, walking side-by-side with me along the beach.
I smiled, biting my lip. "I'm a mirror."
"Tell me," He pleaded, holding my small, pale hands carefully in his. He was so used to being gentle with me.
"I can steal other superpowers." I elaborated, rubbing the pads of my thumbs over his hands. He took my chin and lifted my face, looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
"How?" He breathed, almost mesmerized. I giggled, shaking my head.
"I don't know!" I exclaimed, twirling in circles on the soft sand, feeling elated somehow. Suddenly, a question came to mind, and excited, I ask seriously, "What can Russell do?"
Alec smiled. "It's not completely clear. I think he can do something close to what you can do. Russell's theory is that he has a mild ability of mind control, which as you can imagine makes Aro very pleased."
"I bet." I muttered.
"So, would you like to hear about the battle?"
"Battle..." I said, waggling my eyebrows. "Sounds interesting. But, no."
"Why?" Alec forwned.
"Conner..." I muttered, kicking sand.
He chuckled. "Reagan, maybe I should tell you what--"
"Alec! Reagan!" We both turned sharply to the screaming voice. It was Russell, and he had ruffled, wind-blown hair and a soot-covered face. "They're back! The werewolves! Volterra, fire--! Come quick!"
