"You're not going anywhere tonight?" Micah asked.

"No, like I said the last four times you asked," Hayes replied. She was curled on the couch in Halloween-themed pyjamas (featuring a pattern of pumpkins and black cats she'd spent five minutes trying to explain to Bastet were her) and making her way through a bowl of mini M&Ms. A terrible sequel to a great slasher movie was playing on TV.

"It's a bit out of character for you to stay in when given the option to go out, is all."

"Are you joining me for this marathon of awful movies or not?" she demanded.

"As long as you're prepared to pause it at child appropriate moments when there are kids at the door," Micah replied.

"Wh—kids come trick or treating here?"

"Of course."

"Do we have candy for them?"

Micah reached up and opened the cupboard above the fridge, pulling out a box of mini chocolate bars. "I hid it where you couldn't reach it."

"I want one," Hayes whispered with a small gasp.

"Not until the end of the night."
