Trey
"Daddy, when you go back to New Orleans, can I go too?" Trinity asked.
She positioned herself in my lap to see my face.
"No, babe. I gotta work." I mumbled watching Skip and Shannon as it played on a TV behind her head.
"Nikki can watch me."
"She'll be working."
"While she's working, she can watch me too."
"She's not our assistant, pretty girl. She doesn't work for you, she works for me."
She sucked her teeth and turned back around dramatically.
I kissed the side of her face and gave her a squeeze.
"Don't be like that, baby doll."
"You always leave." She pouted as she crossed her arms.
I muted the TV and turned her back towards me.
"Why do I leave?"
She didn't reply as she refused to make eye contact.
She was definitely her mother's child.
I laughed internally and caressed her face.
"Tell me why I leave."
"To make money." She mumbled.
"Why?"
"So we can have a good life." She added finally looking at me.
"Don't forget that," I reminded her, "if I'm not with you, that's the only reason why."
"Mommy's going back to work too." She said with a sigh.
I watched her become anxious which broke my heart.
"Is that what this is about?"
Slowly, she nodded.
"You get to go too though, right? You never get to go on the road with me or Mommy. This time, you get to see more of what she does."
"But she's gonna be busy."
"I know it gets hectic around you sometimes," I let her know, "but I promise touring is not what you think. I think you'll have fun, you and TJ."
