"Mommy, that hurts." Trini squealed snapping me out of my thoughts.

As I was braiding her hair up before bed, clearly, I had drifted off.

"Sorry princess."

I bent down and kissed her head and redid the braid.

I couldn't believe that bitch came here.

Trey walked into the upstairs den and stood at the doorway to check the energy. I held his eye with a menacing stare as I finished the last braid. Conveniently, he got missing after his little hoe showed up.

"Where's TJ and Rose?" He asked.

"With Nana." Trini answered.

"Oh."

He walked further in and sat on the loveseat.

"Can I go see what they're doing?" She asked.

I nodded and she jumped up and flew out of the room.

"Can I talk to you?" Trey asked sincerely once she was gone.

"You don't have to explain anything to me."

I gathered the comb, brush, and hair moisturizer I'd been using and stood to walk out.

He got up, took the things out of my hands and put them back on the couch, and grabbed my hands delicately.

"Trey, stop."

Carefully, I shook his hands off of mine.

"That's my bad she showed up," he said humbly, "Honest to God, me and her are not together and I didn't invite her here."

"You don't owe me that." I reminded him.

"I do," he corrected, "I invited you here this weekend and me and my family enjoy having you here, you know that. I'd never put you in an uncomfortable position like that on purpose."

"And although I appreciate that, I realize now that maybe this wasn't a good idea."

He looked like I was crazy.

"Trey, you and I aren't together. If you and her are dating or whatever y'all are doing, she should be able to be with you on special days. I don't wanna be the reason that...."

"We ain't dating," he interrupted, "It ain't that type of situation at all."

I shrugged.

"That's not what it looks like."

"Baby, you...." he started.

I exhaled and gave him another harsh look.

"See, this is difficult for you." I said softly.

"Sorry, it slipped out," he said holding his face, "I mean, Lashontae, me and her ain't like that. She's fun and we have a good time, but it's not like that for me."
